Possible wading into the 'does scone rhyme with own or on' debate, but I read that as Who scone.

Just now whilst on my lunchtime walk:
A C63 FLY
On the right car, and yes in a 30mph zone, he was trying to fly judging by his speed......

Drove like one too, gunning it from the light change to dive in front of the Yaris on his inside with about an inch to spare! Obviously being in the correct lane to go straight on was a bit beyond his skill set. Cunt.

Not really gittish but my mother's neighbour has always had, since they moved in, a smart Carbon Black F10 BMW 530d Touring with the rather eye-catching plate "DR13 BLE" properly spaced. Given that was entirely plausibly an age-appropriate plate, I was never entirely sure whether it was chance or deliberate.
Today I got my answer as he drove off at breakfast time in the Touring and came back later in a smart new X3 M40d wearing the same plate. Also Carbon Black.
Life must be going well as I see his wife has swapped her 1-series for a new i3.

A Macan this morning that made me snigger with the plate 803 CUM on it.
I think if those were my initials I'd stick with the original plate.

NM 03FEB as bad as me if I were to get CM 04DEC Our 18-year old neighbour got a plate in that format for her 11-reg Ka earlier this year. Not gittish really though, I don't think. A Macan this morning that made me snigger with the plate 803 CUM on it. I think if those were my initials I'd stick with the original plate. I would too!! Mind you, my plate doesn't have my initials on it at all, so a moot point perhaps.

My mother's always wanted a private plate but as her initials are VD and she doesn't have a middle name it's always proved problematical. Truth is it's probably the only reason she's considered re-marriage after widowhood.

^ Or she could do what I did and get a non-dating plate where the letters are totally unrelated to any name in the family.
Plenty of options, such as AA, ABC, OLD, BOB ..........

I just checked the plate Bess used to have (110BAR). Apparently on a 1994 Civic Crx Esi which is still OTR.
I wonder if the wife of the VW stealer I got Bess from still owns it.

I can almost see the attraction of a personalised plate, name, initials etc. I can't see the point in a totally abstract non-dating plate? Why would I want a non-dating plate - because some stranger might look at my car and realise it's not brand new?

I suppose there are some who might miss a face lifted car from a prior version, perhaps pay a bit more than it is worth. Lots of people thought the 1 series was front drive after all, many of them owners of the car.

One reason is that nobody can tell how old it is. Now, if you change your car every year and want people to know it is new, I can see the objection to a non-dating plate.......

Why would you care one way or the other what people think? My Neighbour owns his own business and kept an older plate (looks just like any other 61 plate) on subsequent cars to make it look like he wasn't doing quite so well. He's got attached to it, so currently has a 1 month old 61 reg RR Sport. That's the only scenario I can think of where you might care, but I bet that's very rare.

I'm not bothered what any curtain-twitching neighbours think but if I did I would rather they thought I was a person who looked after my cars as they aged as opposed to trying to give the impression my car is newer than it is, particularly as most people seem to have completely lost track of the registration system and can't tell the age of a car from it anyway. I suppose if someone offered me a non-dating plate that was interesting and no more than a couple of hundred quid I might think about it, but anymore than that an I'd prefer to really waste the money on a new golf club.
