Had an inadvertent and pleasantly surprising drive in one. Son-in-law wants to replace his Astra and as Vauxhall had just invited him to a 'test day' event I went along with him.
He drove the base Corsa and then a Grandland X with me along as a passenger - and left him feeling that the Grandland wasn't really that much more car than the Corsa - the smaller car had a nicer interior (all makes seem to be getting so much better in this regard - mainstream seems no worse than premium any more) - smaller than the Grandland of course, but the actual usable room didn't feel that much different unless you want to carry adults in the back seats. Performance was much the same in either
Then the sales guy asked if he'd like to drive the auto Corsa - he was a bit reluctant as he's never driven an auto before, so I piped up, "I'll drive it".
Looked very smart in orange with a black and nice wheels - just like the one in the ads - and actually turned out to be quite fun - 8 speed with paddles. Peppy performance for the size of engine and very nice steering.
I don't have much of a base line with which to judge B segment hatches - it's certainly no MINI but lot nicer than a Polo - driving a Fiesta is a gap in my driving experience (although my FIL has one) so I can't compare to supposedly the best in class - Interiors are very close in both.
I think he'll buy a Kia though - he loved the Corsa but he's not a keen driver and the PCP deals are way better on Kias.
