The RAV4's halogen lights are awful. I want to upgrade the bulbs, but I've never had one go before (apart from my van which Halfords do anyway) so I'm kinda out of touch on what are decent. I've heard Osram nightbreakers are about the best. Any others to consider?

Same goes for the dipped beams on the Fiat 500 so I got a set of GE ones from Halfords which are something like 150% brighter and give a noticeably stronger/whiter lighter.
I can't offhand remember their name but I'll check the boxes (in the cupboard with the old bulbs in them) when I get home.
Halfords were doing a BOGOF offer at the time, which helped, as they are pricey.

I have Osram Night breaker unlimited or whatever in the Land Rover and TVR. They work well.

Indeed. Needs to be chopped in for something new if only for road safety reasons...

Yup. We have a pair of the carver versions (ie with arms) that live at either end of the dining table.

We've got 4 of those plus 2 ghost lamps. If I let Mrs Tim have her own way the house would probably be full of ghosts!
It's slightly alarming when one of your friends swings back on the chairs though.

It's slightly alarming when one of your friends swings back on the chairs though. We have these chairs round our boardroom table. A few months back I was having a meeting where one of the visitors was a rather large individual. As the meeting went on I noticed him getting more and more reclined until, eventually, the chair just gently gave up the ghost and went all the way back until the back was on the floor with him lying there, feet in the air. I have never worked so hard not to laugh and appear concerned. That chair took some straightening, I can tell you.

My wife's a fan of Kartell stuff too, but somehow I've managed to restrict her to that pair of chairs. The other six dining chairs are slim modern leather jobs (four in a muted orange and two in a light grey), whereas the table itself is a 17th century oak refectory table. Sounds bizarre but actually the contrast works! We have to strike a balance between the fact that I inherited quite a lot of antique furniture (such as the table, which came without chairs), which I like and am attached to, whereas my wife is a modernist and we live in a very modern house. But she's managed to mix and match antique and modern to create an overall effect that's both original and successful.

I struggle with the halogens in the work cars sometimes whereas the VRS' xenons are much more relaxing.

The last non-classic car I had without them was the Alfa, which had completely hopeless headlights, and that's now nearly 11 years ago. Left to my own devices, I would have ordered our 500 with the optional xenons, but my wife was very uninterested in making the car any more expensive that it needed to be and I had already succeeded in persuading her of the merits of a Twinair over a 1.2, and of the ritzier Lounge over a boggo Pop...so at that point any sort of raid on the options list were not the order of the day.

When you sample something better you just want more.I had the great adaptive Xenons on the 435 but I now have the ICON adaptive LED's on the 5 and they are even better. I wouldn't buy a car without adaptive lights now and I would want the most powerful ones too - ageing eyes and potholes make it a necessity. I was blinded by a car with very bright white lights the other morning - it was a Police X5 who did look rather interested in why an M5 was on the road at 4.45am. 397 Tax Returns done and submitted, 28 awaiting return, 8 still to do......and relax!

I think our tally by October was somewhere in the teens as a percentage of the total and everything that was in had been done. November sees a trickle and then the avalanche starts mid December (obviously accountants aren't meant to get any festive holidays like everyone else)

Some of us are paupers and have to rely on halogen....
I have something similar to Nightbreakers, but think they are Phillips.
I also have an LED upgrade set in the garage, but need a CANBUS bypass resistor set before I fit them. I had them on the Saab and the difference was, literally, night and day.

Might look at getting similar Then seeing as we’ll be keeping the car for a while and as long as they’re not too pricey

Some of the "extra powerful" halogen bulbs don't last very long...... I tried some in the old Scenic and they lasted one autumn/winter. Didn't really notice that much extra light output and for the cost involved it wasn't worth it IMHO. Maybe things have moved on in the past 6 or 7 years ?
