Car has been giving some problems and I diagnosed the problem as dodgy knock sensors. I bought the parts and went to fix it and quickly realised that I didn’t have the time to work on the car(it would have taken me a weekend to do it) so got the local place to do it. $1700 later (knock sensors, coolant line and new gaskets and lines), the engine feels like new, but 6 hours labour later and I’m wishing I had the free time to save the cash myself. At least the car should be good for a while...
The car is barely worth twice that much money but I’ve no spare cash to change it right now. Can’t really complain when it’s got 270,000 miles on it 🤣

You need to ask for a pay rise Rodge!
It's good to see you doing the eco thing and getting full value out of the car. It always amazes me that people in the UK think a car is ready for the scrap heap at 100,000 miles but in the US cars with several 100K are quite commonplace. I suppose big distances and cheap petrol mean people are more likely to jump in the car and drive 100's or even 000's of miles.

6 hours labour to change a knock sensor??
Sounds like bad design to me; surely it should be much more readily accessible

The company I’m working for is small but is growing now and we are due to get proper pay rises in the beginning of next year. I’ve had some opportunities present themselves in other places but I really like working where I am, so am happy to wait. Plus, it’s a good time to be part of the company as it grows so quickly. I’m watching the car market all the time. My wife is looking for a hybrid of sorts as she does most of her driving in town, while I need to get a seven seater. My compromise is I’m looking for a good X5. Engine preferred is the diesel but I’d take the V8 too if the rest of the car was right.
