I genuinely thought I'd never have to post this, but I have just been informed that another of my musical heroes has died. Soundgarden and Audioslave singer/guitarist has died suddenly aged 52, circumstances unknown.
Probably really cheesy, but his music genuinely had a massive effect on my life - he's one of the reasons I attempt to be a singer (Any man with a 5 octave range is a hero in my book) and I am going to miss him and his contribution to my teenage years immensely.
Now I'm off to play Badmotorfinger very, very loudly.

A shame indeed. That gravelly, powerful voice.

If the death of any famous person makes me cry openly, it's because they or their work has had a profound effect on me. Along with Layne Staley, Dimebag and Lemmy, I've now lost 4 of my musical heroes in the last 15 years. Musicians often appear immortal to us fans, but it's sadly never the case.

Bloody hell, no age at all. The plus I can think of is that 2017 doesn't seem to have had the hit rate of 2016, at least so far...

No age at all. I'm not entirely familiar with his work but I do recognise the name (you're dealing with a cultural philistine here) what would his more well known work be?

According the the BBC he wrote and performed the theme tune to the Bond film Casino Royale.
I can't think how that goes to tell if its representative of his Audioslave/Soundgarden stuff though.

As Tim said, the Casino Royale theme tune is his most recent music in the wider public eye. Outside of that, Black Hole Sun is easily the most well known song to feature him.

This news has also made me reach out to the former drummer in God's Hotrod, who quit the band suddenly and under a black cloud just over a year ago. There was an exchange of words and we hadn't spoke since. But, today we are united in grief for one of the men who infulenced us both. I've just had a long and emotional chat with him and now bygones are bygones - we've bonded over our past experiences in the bands we played with and I'm altogether happier knowing that I've not lost a friend to something that is pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.

Ah nothing like the death of a hero too make you remember that [paul weller mode]time is short and life is cruel but you'd sooner put some joy back in[/paul weller mode].....
Not got a great know;edge of his work outside the mainstream stuff, but that Bond theme was pretty good, although having heard it a million times this morning already I probably like it less than I did at 6am this morning.

It's tremendously sad that someone dies so young. With him being a rock star I hope he went out the way he'd want to; coked out of his head and nailing a couple of hookers like John Entwhistle, and nothing as mundane as a heart attack.

He'd been clean for a decade or so so I'm hoping it wasn't drug related.

That's no age. I haven't listened to a lot of his stuff. I liked the James Bond one.

I will admit I only knew about him through you Blarno but I've come to appreciate his work and talent later on.
Real sad news and completely unexpected. RIP.

Ummmm, latest info is that he hanged himself :-( I saw that too, makes it really hard to take. He had young children too and that must have been something to live for. I can't imagine how hard it's going to be for them.
