Still not sure the result will be worth the effort but they appear to be on track.

Over 500 now: www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/50328777And I definitely think it will be worth the effort (and cost) - aiming for crazy targets & goals usually unlocks tons of innovation and the potential to learn. The team are continuing with the STEM education piece which could inspire many people into STEM subjects - something we need more of And aside from that its just effing cool O. (Wonder if XR have a South African contingent that can go and glue themselves to the Hakskeen Pan in protest!)

I heard this morning that they will need to fit a rocket motor to go much faster. Basically they will need to build a Saturn 5 on wheels. Wow!

I thought they had one already.

They've been running it with the mere 6 tons of thrust from a single Eurofighter engine. I think the rocker motor will add an additional 5 tons of thrust.
Weren't they originally talking of having a pre-hybrid era Formula 1 engine as the fuel pump for the main motors?

I thought the initial thoughts were for a liquid fueled rocket motor with that engine as a fuel pump. The Typhoon engine has it's own pump.

It's one of the items the current crew are looking to change apparantly.

It was originally going to be an F1 V8 engine but that wasnt powerful enough so I doubt the Jag unit would be but perhaps it was ok for these test runs.

Brilliant isn't it?! That's the 1,000 km/h mark passed and this was only high speed testing with the jet engine, now they fit the rocket and will be back to break the 800mph barrier.
The airflow under the car went supersonic and stripped a load of the paintwork. They're learnt a huge amount over the last few weeks, it's been really interesting following it, especially the engineering challenges they've faced.

Equally good to watch last night was Guy Martin's record for the fastest Worlds Fastest Tractor. The engineering that went into it was quite something. Worth a watch if you missed it (he also gets a go in a 8000bhp tractor pull racer).

Quite something that end result, 135 point something mph. It looked so bloody planted but the quantity of ice they put into the charge coolers was phenomenal, one run results in a bin full of hot water!

I know a few agricultural contractors who would happily move at that speed given half a chance.

The Chiron isn't far off the F1 car is it?
