This should get interesting.....
Elder daughter booked the V70 in for a service and MoT at a garage local to her in Northampton (this is my late dad's former car, just to recap. that he bought new in 2004).
I get a call from her to say that they have reported that in needs a track end and are they tring to scam her. I recall that wear was noted last year when I had it serviced and MoT'd for mum, so it sounds reasonable.
Next thing I know, bearing in mind I am on holiday in Berlin at the moment,is when she phoned up to collect it she was told that they ave had a little accident with it. The story is that when they reversed it off the lift/ramp, their technician failed to notice another customer's Corsa and reversed straight into it.
She's coming to see us this weekend so I will see for myself but apparently the rear bumper needs repainting on the nearside whereas the Corsa is extensively damaged to the extend that they had to arrange a loan car immediately for its owner. Daughter made sure she got written confirmation of their liability but of course is now left with all the running around to get it sorted.

Hopefully they will arrange repairs and a courtesy car through their own insurance so she won't have to claim on her own insurance and suffer the resulting uplift in premiums.

Isn't the resulting uplift in premiums usually called 'renewal'?

At this stage I didn't think she would need to notify her insurers. She wasn't in the car and it was in someone else's care

Hopefully the garage will come up with a little something for the inconvenience too.

It's not her accident and her insurance has nothing to do with it. The garage should sort it all out.

The importance thing is to never mention it to her insurance company or they will consider it an accident, wether or not it was her fault or in her care.

Accidents happen. Asong as they are apologetic and decent about it then, hassle aside, I hope it's OK. Maybe a bit of discount off the MOT bill as compensation...?
The bumpers on those older Volvos really can do some damage!

If they hadn't cracked the rear lamp lens, it would look just like a minor parking scrape. She's still waiting to hear from the garage's insurers or bodyshop but the Corsa that they assaulted with it needs a new door as an absolute minimum

That’s not too bad, new lens and a bit of cosmetic touch up and she’s good to go.

It’s an old Volvo. That damage is write off material.

First quote is in.... a whisker under £900 That's ok, it's the garages problem to worry about not yours.

Wonder what their excess is, if it was just the Volvo that was damaged I'd be inclined to get them to replace the lamp cluster and bung me £300 and I'd leave the scrape as is.
However with a Corsa that requires a new door thrown into the mix I guess the lot will be going through insurance.

I'd just tell them to get it sorted and provide a loan car whilst it's away - they will have all the contacts to so so anyway. I'd be looking to drop it off with them, take away the loaner and bring it back to their garage - they shouldn't expect her to do the running round.

It was collected on Tuesday morning and the loaner is, in her words "a rather lovely black XC60".
They should be returning the V70 before the end of the week....... I don't think she is in too much of a hurry to get it back !

Taken them a while to sort it but glad to hear it's now being fixed.
