I dropped my car in for its first service (18k) at Lloyd BMW in Newcastle this morning. When I was there they were pushing their Service Plan, which includes two minor services, and "major" one, plus a brake fluid change at 3 years for £1,058.00. You can pay monthly by DD.
Any thoughts? At that price I don't think I'm saving much but I don't think I can really lose either. I don't know how much a brake fluid change is. This first service was going to cost me £220, so will have at least that one more time plus the larger service inbetween. The advantage is, I guess, that once the DD is set up I can just forget about those costs. I tend to set aside an amount each month for servicing anyway so I won't really notice the difference.
Also, when you take your car in for a service and there are free pastries - how many would you say is too many before you start to look like a freeloader? Is it OK to say; "I'll just stick these ones in my laptop bag for later?".

BMW have menu pricing for servicing on their website so you can work out the cost. Looks like you’ll make a saving, but only if you keep the car a while as that will take you to somewhere around 70k miles unless the plan will cover the service it’s on for now? Also bear in mind that service costs drop quite a bit when the car is 3 years old.

When I had the M135i, I took it out, because it was 5yrs/60k miles and cost £300. What I believe is colloquially known as a "no brainer".
With the 440i, I didn't bother, because it was 3yrs/36k miles and cost £500. Since the car only needs servicing every two years if you don't do a high mileage, it clearly wasn't worth it. I recall the service last year costing £300.

I do about 20K miles a year and it covers this service. I'm also keeping the car for three years so it seems I should probably go with it.

I think it’s worth doing for you,
Mine came with a 5 year / 50k mile service pack as standard, but it’s £30 a month over 3 years now.

I've had 2 services with the 320 and the first was an 'all filters' one that cost around £500. If John Clark applied the reduced rate - car is over 3 years old - then the full price would've presumably been an easy £600.

I tried to take the 3 year package for mine, which was £45/mth and covered the cost of the MOT after 3 years. Unfortunately a small number of dealers are not participating, including Harry Fairbairns, presumably because they are effectively giving a discount on the plan. My running in service, which included oil for everything was £550 + VAT. A major service will be about the same + pollen filters etc, so probably about £650/£700 and then a brake fluid change at about £200 + VAT. At £45/mth incl VAT I reckon I would have saved about £300 ish.
Douglas Park BMW are offering the service plan but I promised never to use them again and despite being an Arnold owned franchise, Fairbairns have always been a much more favourable experience than Parks ever were.

Mine needed spark plugs at the second service, which adds nearly £400. edit: just looked at M5 menu pricing, std oil service is £470 and the next service (assuming it’s the same content as mine) is £950 + £68 for brake fluid. They list transfer box and both front and rear axle services (£435), when are those needed?

When I looked, I didn't think the spark plugs were needed until 40,000 miles or thereabouts. The diffs and transfer box oil were changed at the running in service but I don't know when they get changed again.
Where did you find the M5 pricing?

Mine needed spark plugs at the second service, which adds nearly £400. £50 per spark plug ?? I remember the days when you could buy a set of 4 for under £5.....

Go into the website and start to book a service, when you’ve selected a location and entered your registration number it brings up a list of all the possible services (with prices) for you to select from. Mines done 38k miles, so that makes sense.

That'll include fitting which, assuming its similar to something like mine, is a bit of a nightmare (before you add BMW labour costs). I got a mate to help (well, he's a mechanic so I supplied tea while he did the work) when I did the M5's and it took a good hour. Plus if you're extracting nearly 600BHP, decent fuel economy and still expect them to last more than 10k mile then they're hardly likely to be the most basic common or garden ones found in Halfords.

I am pretty sure mine is a 48V system and from a previous conversation with a service adviser I can recall the shock at learning that the spark plugs were well over £30 each
