The Rogue, or whatever it’s called in the UK, is my steed for the week. It was a free upgrade from an economy car. I had a Nissan Sentra about 2 years ago which was a forgettable experience, but the Rogue stands out for a few reasons. Firstly, the seats are good for lumbar support but I’d like more thigh support. The cabin is basic, the info system is not great, being inferior to the Elantra I had last week. It doesn’t do iPhones well and doesn’t show Waze or google maps on it. There are common parts in the Nissan and Elantra, which surprised me.
The engine/auto gearbox is not a lively combination by any stretch of the imagination. Slow to pick up but is happy to coast at 80mph.
Speaking of 80mph, I was doing close to said speed when the road surface changed and there was a loud bang inside the car. The rear view mirror fell down! The car is a 2019 model and it’s falling apart already?!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from the past two weeks is how much Hyundai have surpassed Nissan as a car maker of quality vehicles.
I haven’t contacted Enterprise about the car yet as I haven’t had a chance, and I was able to put the mirror back into its mount on the window.
I’ll see how the day goes tomorrow and try to get the car sorted.

I think you are writing about the Qashqai; a long, long time ago I recall someone mentioning that Nissan was the "budget" end of Japanese motoring, so the car falling apart after a few months is not a surprise to me.

Her foot managed to knock the rear view mirror off the windscreen. Although he stuck it back as best he could it regularly fell off, much to his boss’s annoyance and confirming his feelings of poor Ford Sierra quality.

Probably is a Quasqai- I completely forgot they existed and it looks like one.
Also discovered today that the rear parcel shelf is only attached on one side as the other side is broken...
Not the most impressive car I’ve rented!

Jeez, sounds utterly depressing.

Update on it. Enterprise called as I’d said we would consider a corporate account. I mentioned that the mirror had fallen off. The guy told me I’d get the rental for free! So every cloud has a silver Rogue lining...

FYI the Nissan Rogue is the US built version of our X-Trail with a CVT transmission.

So having driven 600 miles in 4 days, in heavy traffic and on interstates at 80 mph, I’m not convinced by the Rogue. It’s been ok as a car for a few days. The Bluetooth has been weird, never working properly. The gearbox, well I’m not and never have been a fan of CVTs and this has done nothing to convince me.
I had high hopes of it being a decent car but based on my experience of rental cars in the US, where I’ve probably had about 15+ in the last few years, it’s not one I’d choose again.
Pros: For a car that’s being sold in America, it’s average of 27.7 mpg over my trip is not bad. Handles pretty well and the ride is good. Tight turning circle and the reverse camera and blind spot lights are useful.
Cons: Listed a few already. The tendency of the car to lock itself occasionally while I’m driving is a nuisance. Engine noise is poor.
Conclusion: I’d buy a Korean car instead. Nissan do some cars really well but their white goods just remind me of the Almera Saloon which was just awful. Not my cup of tea, but had it not started to fall apart, I wonder would I have had a different view of it?

On the east coast near Boston this week. Got another Nissan Rogue Sport. Funny how a different spec in a car can change your experience of it. This one is much nicer and is possibly newer, but is a better drive and the sound system is vastly superior to the original one above. I might even get to see how it is in the snow on Friday as it’s expected...
Oh, and where I said it’s not one I’d choose again, I didn’t choose it, it was ready for me to pick up at the airport. The upside was I’m familiar with it now so driving after midnight having been on planes all day was a slightly more pleasant experience.
