For obvious reasons I am now a big fan of the XDrive system. It really is a revelation on a wet/damp road and I find no real downside in the dry. If you carry too much speed in to a bend it will still understeer initially but a heavy dose of right foot sees the front wheels pull the front end in and the back end then pushes you out the corner.
I think it will be a great success and it will make it much more of a competitor for the Golf R, S3 etc in real world every day driving.

I'll always think of a Volvo estate when I hear 240. I do like the M2, they're one of those cars you forget exist to you see one.

Having done some rooting about on t'interweb it would appear this info is completely unfounded. evo said the same thing last year when the facelift came out and it wasn't true then either. Bit odd for BMW to do two LCIs on a model, though. Owners aren't happy about it!

Fake news, then? Donald won't be happy.

I hope it's not fake news. Big mistake if BMW don't give us XDrive when that's the way the competition is going.

1 series/2 series is not far off replacement - I can't see them investing any more in significant engineering upgrades when the replacement is 18 months away.
I suspect packaging 4wd and the inline 6 in RHD is a pig to do, requiring lots of tooling spend (otherwise they would have done it).

It occurred to me, while following a 120d this morning, that they don't offer the 3 litre diesel in the 1/2 series. Is that right?

Forgive me if I have missed something as I'm not taking the mick here but is there a new M124i 1-series just been introduced as per the title of this thread?
Over the years, the 1-series and sooner introduced 2-series has matured nicely and is now a desirable 5 door hatch. Beats the Golf for me, then the price does reflect this but it does look more prestigious than a Golf

Even if it does have xdrive now, I'd still have a Golf R

I know - but it's a much bigger market which makes more financial sense.
Doing a rhd version normally requires unique components due to packaging changes. For the same reason, Jaguar have never offered the old XF and current XJs as 4wd in the UK, whereas it's been a LHD option since 2012.
