Battery in Mrs 12th's car let us down earlier, despite a fair amount of recent usage. Anyone recommend one of those stand-alone roadside starter packs from personal use?

I know one of the residents here uses one fairly frequently and swears by it.

Just buy a new battery and a basic set of jump leads for emergencies. The battery sounds knackered, if it's the original.

The new-fangled comp[act lithium-ion emergency star packs .... our works van went through a spate of flattening its battery and the company bought one. It's amazing how something so small and light can have enough energy to jump-start a van

Not a fan of the magazine, but their tests are usually good. I’ve bought all sorts of things based on the results, mainly car cleaning stuff, but it should apply to other products. Test Results

There shouldn't be a repeat for some time but a set of jump leads is my preferred choice as it's most likely to happen at work or home, where either a colleague or a neighbour can assist. I used the jump leads last month to help a lady in the car park next to us whose battery had gone flat.

Using jump leads is a dying art, you so rarely see it these days.
But when you do get the opportunity to use them and help someone on their way you feel like a bloody superhero as they look at you in awe! I like to be completely nonchalant about it, as if I do this sort of thing every day and my mechanical knowledge knows no bounds.

The quality of the jump leads is important. I have a set of shitty AA ones and a set I made myself from 35mm battery cable. The shitty AA ones won't turn the tractor engine over at all. The ones I made have it started within seconds. One end is an Anderson plug so it attaches to the Land Rover battery without having to access the seat box.

Like being able to wire a plug or change a fuse.

Looks good if a little pricey, but also says that it does not jump-start

No it doesn't but I've already got a decent set of jump leads for that. However, I'm not sure jump starting modern cars is such a good idea anyway due to their more sensitive electronics.

Like my crappy ones did when we first had a tractor to start. We now possess a mega-cable set.
