Late to this but nice one Blarno. Looks very neat. Is the suspension lowered? I think it's just the standard Sport ride height. It's not uncomfortable or bouncy in the slightest.

Good choice. Will it be gettting winter tyres later in the year? Tyres only get changed when they need changing in my house. Although, at least one of the mix and match tyres on it currently is a winter/M&S tyre. Seriously?! Doesn’t matter what the car is or how much it cost, the first thing I’d do it make sure it had a decent set of tyres, which at the very least would match on each axle. It sounds like you’ve got a potentially dangerous combination and doesn’t say much for the previous owner.

If you are taking your family out in the car you really need to sort the tyres ASAP. Mixing winter and summer tyres is generally considered to be a sure way to find yourself in the ditch.

When the snow comes, make sure you put snow socks on the front wheels and complain that "BMWs are shit in the snow."

I've got two pairs of unused snow socks that I bought when I had the Lexus. They're for 17 inch wheels but cover a range of sizes according to the labels. if anybody wants them let me know and I'll confirm what these sizes are when I get back to civilisation this afternoon.

3 week report:
All is good. It's surprisingly comfy for a low, sports suspsended motor. Seats are brilliant, although leather is a bastard on hot days for a sweaty back (Need to get the aircon re-gassed ASAP). No cupholders in the front for my morning coffee, but Ebay or the local scrappy should find me what I need - mine has the phone prep kit in the centre console that replaces the twin cupholders and as I don't have a 2003 vintage Nokia any more, the phone prep kit is useless. Ebay found me a new parcel shelf/dog guard for the princely sum of £20, I just need to find a towbar and electrics and some clamp on roof bars so I can use my roofbox and bike carriers. Economy wise, the OBC reckons I've averaged 49mpg, but my tank to tank calculations tell me I'm getting 44mpg, which is not to be sniffed at for an old automatic diesel and is around about what the SAAB averaged for most of its tenure with me.
One thing I have noticed is not only how well made it is, but well thought out for those who love a bit of self-spannering. Changing bulbs is ridiculously easy, everything is accessible or easily removable.
As for the tyre worriers - fear not: It has matching axle pairs. My main concern with tyres when I buy the car is the condition of them. The fronts are less than 8 months old and the rears are only 2016 vintage with loads of tread and no abnormal wear. The benefits of working in my industry is knowing where the production date markings are on the sidewalls, so you can always tell at least how new the tyres are and whether they're likely to start degrading any time soon.

They might be matching pairs, but aren’t 2 of them winters? They won’t be good in these temperatures and mean the grip difference between axles is greater than normal.
I hope all continues to be well though.

How do you get on with the steering? I found it oddly responsive immediately away from the straight ahead and it took some getting used to, especially combined with the slender wheel on the ES versions.

Steering is lovely. Not really given it any kind of death or hardcore Queefery to judge the feel and communication. Mine has the fatter, squishier M Sport wheel on it which feels odd compared to the slim job that was in the SAAB.

Sold on Friday via Facebook Marketplace for the princely sum of £900. It was too good to end up in a scrapyard, so I was glad to find someone who just wanted a workhorse.
