That's bang on topic! I've had these installed today. Something I've been thinking about for a couple of years, but has become more important now I'm using the Golf more regularly...... It started off like buying a car, set a budget (based on a price on an advert) and as I got into it more, it kept going up. I drew the line at making them 'smart' through a control box with a SIM card (garage is a bit too far from the house for wifi), but they are electric, insulated and are pretty secure as the bottoms slats lock into plates bolted to the garage floor. Typical new(ish) build, the right hand door opening is 20mm wider than the left (unfortunately not the side the car goes in) and the middle pillar is about twice as deep as the outer ones so I couldn't tuck the doors behind the pillars without building work, so not quite as neat as I wanted, but still very happy.

^ My mum has something similar on her garage, which she no longer uses as she's stopped driving. However elder daughter has taken to using the garage as a store for some of her furniture and other possessions following her split with her former partner. One great thing is that the door sealing to the floor means that no leaves or other debris gets blown inside
EDIT: However, how did you get odd sized doors with a 20mm difference? UK garage doors are standard sizes

This reminds me I need to order a spare remote for ours. We had the up and over that accompanies most new builds but stopped to a remote, insulted one that seals completely. Well worth it and not that expensive.

Ha! Old neighbours across the road had one of their garage doors electrified and it forever seemed to be part open. I suspect they regularly brushed against the fob during the day. Those look like there's something valuable behind them.

You would have to ask the builders....but it was the opening between the brickwork that was different, which I assume they compensated for with the frame on the original up and over doors. The new doors are custom made to size, so are 20mm different in width.

I have thinking about replacing our garage doors, but will probably have the central pillar removed and have one large door. Like you, I am bored of sweeping leaves and crap out of the garage but I also want to be able occasionally to get a car in the centre of the garage to make home spannering easier.

Biggest regret in replacing my garage door, was getting a roller door as it has seriously affected the height due to the upper floor.
It didn't matter when I had the E500 and the TVR, but it's a problem with Land Rovers. The 110 is going to have to have the bulk of the body assembly done outside.
I should have got a horizontal sliding sectional door instead.

That did cross my mind as we are a bit restricted for length in the garage due to the position of the side door, but there’s still enough room for something 3 series sized so not really a problem. There won’t be any spannering.

I’ve got more clearance than I had with the up and over door and not worrying about parking my car too close (it was tight when I opened the other door this morning!) is another bonus. The sectional doors are good if you’ve got a wide garage.

Yes, it depends where they can put the roller. Due to the floor above the roller has taken a foot off the clearance. Hey ho.

The brown facia is the irritating reduction in height due to the roller.

Ahh, I see. One company did suggest something similar, putting the roller under the lintel so the door was further forward and interior space maximised but it wasn’t worth it for such a small increase in space. You can get different size slats and more compact rollers but probably not on the width of your door.

I just walked across to the supermarket to get something for my lunch (and a morning snack) and as I walked across the car park I heard the loud beeping sound of a reversing vehicle which made me jump a bit and look in all directions in case I got mowed down by a big van or lorry. No! It was a Kia Kona electric vehicle. If they make all electric cars this loud, they will become a public nuisance and all car parks will sound like 100 children with their fingers on one button of an electric organ.

Beards. I can understand the full works (groomed or not), the goatee and the 'tasch, but where does the thought process even begin which eventually leads to the complex result above?

It was a big knock to my confidence in later life when we found out the truth about Jimmy Savile. Somehow it made him not replying to all those letters I wrote to Jim’ll Fix It worse.

He comes from Renton. Nobody has a right mind in Renton allegedly! Gross and complete stupidity but the employer gets done! Maybe there was no training for ash disposal but did they also tell him that when the seaplane came in that he shouldn't put his hand in the propeller or that sitting on the range in the kitchen wasn't wise, especially when it was on. There is a reason why some creatures never make it past childhood in nature but we have Health and Safety to make sure they make it to old age, creating carnage as they go. Sorry had a bad day!

I suspect that most people these days don’t realise how long ashes stay hot for. As a boy, it used to be my job to clear the fire of old ashes and build a new fire in the morning. All the old ashes went outside in a metal bucket and got put in the bin or spread on the garden later in the day. Even the outside bin was metal!

Yes, I should imagine that they order a lorry load of small doors and use one on houses with a single garage and two if building a double garage.

I am please to say that our house has one very wide double electric door and it makes life so much easier. The only downside is that the garage is 5.35mtrs deep which doesn't leave much space length ways if I put my car in.
