I almost always have 2 slices of toast rather than just 1 (or 3). I also usually make/eat one sandwich for my lunch during the week. Isn't it convenient the way that sliced bread comes in an even number of slices in the loaf? Every so often, however, the bakers like to "throw a wobbly" and I'll get a loaf with an "extra" slice in it, leaving me with a predicament of what do I do with the leftover ! First world problem, I know ........ Is it an extra one though. or are you missing one and been shortchanged?

I think that Chris errs towards the 'loaf half empty' worldview!

I've never counted how many slices there are and was unaware thet the norm was an even number!

Polo mints are, annoyingly, in packs of 23 so my breaking a pack in two does not work. My piece of autism news for the day.

Too many red bars on that packet for me. However since we are in the random section, my wife said to me last night that she had seen a car in the car park that she really liked and thought I should look at....it was a 7 series! A bit bigger than I would normally look at but Martin, what is the name of the fully adaptive suspension etc?

It’s the perfect car for me as most of my driving in it is 3-4 hour motorway journeys, even more so now I have the Golf and it does cover ground quickly thanks to the voodoo suspension, but I doubt it would give you enough of what you want. I didn’t look at the red bars....

Thanks Martin. 90% of my driving is not on motorways so you're probably right.
My daughter has become the food police in our house - she measures out portions based on calories or foot type and that's it, no more. She also monitors all the labels and lets me know when I buy anything unhealthy. For some of the time, it isn't much fun but it's all for my own good!

^ You can either eat what you want when you want, and live a possibly short but happy (food-wise) life, or stick to health foods, feel miserable when you eat but (on the balance of probabilities) live much longer.

I'm actually getting used to it. The biggest difference is the quantity I eat - she made pasta last night and I looked in the pan and thought I could probably eat all of that. However after it was divided by 3 and consumed very quickly, I didn't feel as though I had been short changed food wise and although I had to resist the temptation to eat something around 10pm I know it's doing me good. We are not on a greens and grain diet and I still get things I like.

A bit of both is always good. I’m not going to live like a Puritan to gain a few extra years. Portion control is the biggest issue and I do measure a lot of stuff out. It’s surprising how little a portion of something actually is.

I suppose that it was inevitable that one day.....
our cooker would give out.. It's the on;y thing we really needed to buy after getting married and moving into our first house, so it's just over 31 years old and never gone wrong before. Last night just before dinner all the power in the house went. Bearing in mind all the electrics are in the external garage I had to find a torch, keys, shoes and coat to then discover that the cooker circuit wouldn't reset. Came in, turned cooker switch off, back to garage and OK. Came into house, ensured all dials on cooker were set to off, turned on power switch to cooker and no electric to whole house again. New cooker ordered today, can't finds anything as nice as the old one despite scouring many internet sites. Awaiting delivery tomorrow and removal of an old friend :-(
Not quite what I wanted to buy myself as a birthday present, but a few years ago it was a new washing machine as the old one gave out a few days before my birthday ! Also highly inconvenient that having taken Monday and Tuesday off work, it gives out on the Tuesday evening. If it had gone on Saturday, Sunday or Monday I'd have had time to look round a bit longer and maybe have been at home so that the new one got installed more-or-less immediately.
EDIT: And although the prices of new cookers aren't too bad (cannot have induction hob as our stainless pans won't work with that type of ring), by the time you add in delivery/installation charges and a fee for disposal of your old cooker, it soon adds up ! For the really cheap cookers, it all but doubles the initial purchase cost

I did have a Dyson washing machine and that was the dogs danglies, no matter the accidents it would get everything just about perfect but they could not get supplies of the drums when the supplier went bust. RIP for want of a basic part.

Have now removed the old cooker from the kitchen.... when I removed the rear cover to disconnect the wiring, I know I made the right choice to buy a new one instead of getting this one looked at for repair.......

I kept an old oven going for over 12 years by repairing it when it went wrong and then replaced it entirely when we had a kitchen put in last year. The new one is so much better; quicker to heat up, more functions (it has a Sabbath setting should I wish to convert to Judaism - how forward thinking is that?), and cheaper to run. I should have done it years ago (the new oven, not the conversion).

Our hall light stopped working the other day and I just assumed the bulb/lamp (take yer pick pedants) because I fitted it in early 2004 and have never changed it. Turned out to be dodgy electricians, not for the first time, I should add. In the hall there are three light switches, all reachable with the mere effort of a single step that all turn on the same light. That means two 2 way switches and an intermediate one in between. The latter is what had failed because the sparks had used the backbox as a junction box and then crammed in the light switch on top of all the cables, eventually causing it to fail. This is what I found inside. The front connector is where I've bypassed the switch and four of the red cables in it were in one terminal of the switch. As all the switches were so close together I've just put a blank over this one. Twats did the same in the lounge where they had 5 T&E cables coming into the switch backbox. I wanted to fit a dimmer switch and had to chisel the wall out to fit a deeper box so it would fit!

Went karting on Saturday for my eldest a 17 birthday treat. Over 16s arrive and drive, 2 x 15 mins session with a mix of abilities which meant not many clean laps. First session, 3rd best time of the day (was in the last group in the evening) An improvement in the second session to best time of the day. Just under 2 seconds off the all time lap record, must have been someone a lot lighter....! The C means under 16 / child, saw ‘champion’ drive while we were waiting. He was around 10-11, wild but committed, with a very pushy dad shouting and waving at him from the sidelines.

Pulled a blinder on a cold caller today. I had the day off to finish some work on my bathroom (Mainly repairing a badly fitted bath that turned out to be even more badly fitted than I had imagined) and was halfway through when the phone rang. I was expecting it to be the wife, instead it went thus:
"Hello, is that Mr Blarno?" "Speaking, yes" "Hi, it's suchandsuch from TLC, we're a home improvement company. We spoke to Mrs Blarno last week..." "I doubt that very much, I'm gay" "......."
*mic drop
I should have stayed on the line, but I hung up.
