Nearly 2 years on from a bit of a fire at fleet motorway services southbound (on the M3) there is still no HGV parking. It's so dire now that I have seen signs prior to Heathrow on the M25 anticlockwise warning of this. Considering how few motorway service areas we have, and the distance to the next nearest one, as well as being outraged by this issue I reckon it represents a significant safety issue too. Cones have been placed for a considerable distance on the hard shoulder leading to, and from, the services to stop anybody (not just HGVs) from stopping there. When we are now being urged more than ever to "take a break" as "Tiredness kills", I think it's a disgrace

Don't have a problem with that, there are worse initiation rites.

Just changed the battery on my daughters car; 2004 KA, it was the original one, date stamped Jan 04, now that's not bad going.

If they have the fogs on then there are 3 distinct sets of lights on.

I wish! And yes, they do always have their foglights on. The aforementioned headlights must be shite.

I wish! And yes, they do always have their foglights on. The aforementioned headlights must be shite. This morning I had a puncture just south of Sunderland and was restricted to 50mph on the front runflat. To counter the boredom of travelling at that speed I decided to have a count up on Jukes with foglights on. In the following 20 miles I counted 51 Jukes and 9 had their foglights on, just shy of 20%. They are more noticeable with their foglights on so it probably just seems more.

We get a monthly invoice from Worldpay - the people who used to be Streamline for taking card payments over the phone, etc.
They've recently rebranded and clearly let their children have a go

What a great addition. I'd be very happy to find that in my hotel room.
I presume you are staying in some kind of country club with a golf course attached?

A little odd that it would be cheaper for me to take a short-notice 3-night Christmas Market winter break, flights, breakfast and hotel included in Copenhagen or a few other European cities, than just to pay for 3 nights hotel accommodation in, say, the outskirts of Bristol.
The wonders of the internet and special offers...... I wish I had the time and money to book something !

If you're doing Christmas markets I highly recommend Vienna.
I know what you mean about Uk city breaks, the missus and I are going to London in a few weeks to watch Les Miserables. Combine that with a nice hotel for the night and a fancy restaurant and its probably £750 for the night. I'd rather go abroad.

May end up visiting Bath or Winchester for a half-day if I feel inspired to visit a Christmas market this year

Hope you're not claustrophobic if you go to Bath. You shuffle around the market with a lot of people you don't know, whether you want to shuffle around or not! Definitely avoid the weekend at any rate, it's a nightmare.

May end up visiting Bath or Winchester for a half-day if I feel inspired to visit a Christmas market this year I always come away slightly disappointed. It's the same stalls, selling the same tat, year after year, with the same food and drink stalls. They were a novelty the first few years but seem a bit tired now.

Another random thought..... 22 November will see the 15th anniversary of England winning the Rugby World Cup. I find it hard to believe that it will be 15 years since I watched Jonny Wilkinson kick that magnificent drop goal; where has the time gone? Sure it doesn't seem like "only yesterday", but 15 years?? Oh well, at least it means only another year to go until the next WC !

Agreed, it doesn't seem possible.
About an hour ago I was chatting to Craig Laidlaw with some of my Scottish colleagues, but thought it best not to push the England agenda too strongly, if only for the preservation of civility in the hotel bar

I almost always have 2 slices of toast rather than just 1 (or 3). I also usually make/eat one sandwich for my lunch during the week. Isn't it convenient the way that sliced bread comes in an even number of slices in the loaf? Every so often, however, the bakers like to "throw a wobbly" and I'll get a loaf with an "extra" slice in it, leaving me with a predicament of what do I do with the leftover ! First world problem, I know ........
