I'm currently in Corfu at a small studio development in a tiny run down resort on the East Coast. I know there are a few of you who like luxury holidays, but although I occasionally appreciate a nice hotel, I am not in my comfort zone. There is no fine dining here. Just small family owned tavernas serving simple grilled fayre which suits me down to the ground. We came last year and fell in love so booked again this year. I am still in love with the place. We used to have a flat in Cala Egos in Mallorca. I enjoyed it for the first few years, but the demands of property ownership when you are supposed to be on holiday aren't all they are cracked up to be. My dad sold it and bought a house on the mainland which I have every intention of avoiding visiting at all costs. I am not a fan of forced family holidays. In case any of you are interested, Messonghi is a wonderful place to visit.

I went to Corfu some years ago and stayed in one of the more touristy areas so I can see the appeal of going somewhere that has more locals than pissed up Brits. Looks like a great view you’ve got there.

I don't like luxury holidays, and even if I find somewhere I really like, there is so much world to explore that I would prefer to go somewhere different for a new experience.
Enjoy yourself !

I had two sailing holidays in Greece many years ago and loved every minute. In particular sailing into new, small and remote destinations each night and then finding somewhere to eat based on the smiles of the staff and the smells emanating from the kitchen:never disappointed and always enchanted.

My then-wife and I went to Corfu for a "quick break" when she was 6 months pregnant! It was very much a last-minute decision nd, in the days before widespread interwebbery, was almost totally unresearched before we went. Thoroughly enjoyed t despite that, my 193 (she counted them!) mosquito bites and the hire of an anaemic Fiat Uno for the first 3 days! Messonghi was one of the small villages we went to, or rather drove through, all of which seemed rather pleasant. Looks like it's still pleasant - enjoy!!

I do like to visit different places, but getting welcomed like old friends to a place previously visited has a lot going for it.
Messonghi still has mosquitos.

We love Crete and go almost every year to stay in a small village in the hills. The accommodation is great and the people are lovely - they do greet you like old friends. The thought of staying in one of those huge hotels with hundreds of bedrooms, where you're completely anonymous, just does not do it for me. And as for cruises I couldn't think of anything less appealing for a holiday.

Looks lovely but I am not expecting to go to Corfu any time soon. My wife's last long-term boyfriend before she met me came from Corfu and she spent a lot of time there. As such, I get the sense she would find it a bit weird going there with me.

Currently planning a US road trip from San Francisco to Phoenix, or vice versa, that will take in Yosemite, Death Valley, Las Vegas, the Grand Staircase, Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.

We did that years ago; Fly to San Fran, 3 days there, pick up car (you don't want a car in San Fran), drive to Lake Tahoe over Golden Gate Bridge, then Mammoth Lakes, Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas, Scottsdale, Grand Canyon, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, up Pacific Coast Highway, Carmel, back to SF. Great trip, really enjoyed it.

Done a few of these now. Only book a car and totally wing it on the accommodation. America is very expensive nowadays, though and the ESTA application form is ridiculously invasive, too, so this could be my last trip there. They want 20-25% for tips these days and a beer is $8-$9.

That is something on my bucket list but whether or not I'll ever manage to do it, is another thing. The ideal timing for me would be almost as soon as I retire, but quite when I'll ever be able to afford to do that I don't know !

Bloody love Greece, We've been many times but always got a villa as I can't stand families when I'm trying to relax, I want complete relaxation which I really can only find in Greece as they're as laid back as me. Given the pounds gone to poo I'm struggling to afford it this year as we have to go in August as the missus is a teacher.
Highly recommend Kefalonia and Lefkada, fabulous places that have a similar vista to Lake Como with out the outrageous costs.

The place we are at is no children and only small. Saying that, they do sell non resident pool tickets. It's really distracting. Some French kids have turned up. One is a Miley Cyrus lookalike minus tattoos and spent ages massaging suncream into her buttocks. There is an East European couple in the next gazebo and she has the most unfeasibly perky breasts. It is a hard life!

Home this afternoon. I have to say that Newcastle Airport have dropped a major bollock with their new taxi partner.
It used to be the case that you went outside and got a Hackney Carriage like you would anywhere. Not any more. Apparently, it is better to queue inside and request a private hire and prepay.
The driver I received did not pass a test in Europe. He had his satnav and phone mounted on the screen directly in front of him and was incapable of competent driving. Every bend and crest in the road was met with a hard stab on the brakes.
We eventually got off the A68 on to the village road and he proceeded at 15-30mph, stopping whehn oncoming cars approached.
He couldn't follow basic instructions on where exactly to drop us with our luggage and when we got back to the house he spent an age trying to back up and turn around.
The final straw was him taking a piss on my driveway. 😔

Much cheaper than the old black cabs who used to have your arm off. We only paid £20 when we landed the other week at 2am. Have you tried the new VIP Meet and Greet they've built right outside the terminal? Drive into one of the bays and the cameras take 360 degree photos of your car, drop the keys of and then a 30m covered walkway right into the terminal. Fast track security and you're through Duty Free and into a bar within 15 mins of switching off the engine. When I priced it it worked out something like £8 per day.

I've used the meet and greet before. We stayed over in the Doubletree on the way out as the flight was at 6am so a friend dropped us off.
The price I paid to Arrow was only a couple of pounds less than the Hackney on the meter the last time. This guys driving was appalling, he reeked of BO, as did the car and pissing on my driveway is not acceptable. I've put a complaint in to Arrow.

I’ve never wanted to risk meet and greet, if the airline isn’t picking me up then I always go with short stay. The solution Bob describes does sound very good though.
Back to the OP, looks and sounds really nice.
