It appears that BMW have listened to our criticism of the positioning of the door handles on the new 3 Series and fixed it on the newly released 8 Series Gran Coupe I like the sweep of the bootlid. www.bmw.co.uk/bmw-cars/8-series/2019-gran-coupe

Hmm. I think I will need to see it in a different colour, preferably a darker one.
In that colour, I'm not wholly convinced.
Certainly it isn't quite the stunner the 6GC was (particularly in M6 flavour).

Looks like a new BMW styling feature for every model is an oversize grille that cuts into the leading edge of the bonnet; the X1 has just been ruined (IMHO) by such a facelift

The 6GC was an immediate stunner and the 8GC whilst quite good looking doesn't leave you with that feeling that you need to keep looking back at it. It will no doubt be massively expensive and fantastic to drive. In a years time it will be priced at £60K on the hardly used forecourt. At that point it becomes much more attractive.

I agree, the M6 GC was easily the best looking BMW a few years back, the 8 GC looks good but not in the same league. The M6 GC does look dated now, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing with the way the latest cars look, but the interior is 3 generations old as well. I couldn’t fit the kids in the back which made it a non starter and I expect the 8 will be the same, but that won’t be as much of an issue in a few years time. An M8 or even M850i GC at a year or so old will be a great buy.

An M8 or even M850i GC at a year or so old will be a great buy. Unless you just want top dog position, it's hard to see that the 540HP M850i will lose much to the M8 on the road and it could easily be £10K cheaper.

I always thought the 6GC looked too long and low, with a stretched wheelbase as if it would bend in the middle if you leaned on the roof too heavily.

I like that - shows how good the 3 series could look if they weren't so determined to keep each incarnation the same.

It looks absolutely great side on and from above. But the front and rear suffer from "BMW-fussiness" that seems to afflict all their current designs.

I think a lot of the fussiness gets hidden by black paintwork. It certainly works on my 3.
I'm not keen on the lower part of the rear bumper on the 8 though, the way the tailpipe surround juts out is asking to be bashed off a high kerb and is a bit Jimmy Hill to me, especially since you can see the round pipes inside.

I wonder if BMW are deliberately screwing their grills up so they can be fixed on the facelift?

I wonder if BMW are deliberately screwing their grills up so they can be fixed on the facelift? The X1 has just been facelifted to give it the "Ghastly grille", so I think not. It's not very expensive in overall terms to tool up for a new front bumper and grille, so if China likes huge grilles I don't understand why BMW does not reserve them exclusively for that market

I glanced an 8 series convertible outside Grassicks in Perth last week. My first thought from viewing it from the rear 3/4 for a fraction of a second was that someone had parked a new Mustang droptop in front of the showroom. I like the Mustang but I don't consider that to be a compliment to BMW.

I didn't know the 8GC was actually available on UK roads yet. It's a bit odd to see it fitted with E46 M3 lookalike wheels:

I like it. The 6 Series is looking quite dated now.

Looks like a Kia Stinger with a crap grille. Think I'd take the Kia

I like it. The 6 Series is looking quite dated now. As does my 4 series seen against newer models, but seeing as it is still a good-looking car, I don't particularly mind that.

There was a Clarkson comment about a Chrysler that likened it to a dog squatting, well that 8 series has constipation to go with that. Yuck.

The new Discovery is obviously the more recent model but the 3/4 is a far more impressive piece of product design.

It always looks a bit “Lego” to me. But not in a bad way.

I really on't like it and, unlike other's have sai, it hasn't 'grown' on me either. It always looks a bit “Lego” to me. But not in a bad way. This. ^^
