Get a lightly used Polo for £15k, an earlier suggestion.
Edit: The GTI

Two of my colleagues at work have TDI versions of this; one white with black roof, the other red/black. Only one change in registration of a difference ('64 vs '15), both the same engine etc, but different front lights and, no doubt, other things I haven't noticed.

You are either going to have to get in your car and do the miles to see cars around the country or you are going to have to wait a long time until the right one lands in your lap nearby. For the right car in the right colour and spec, I would travel anywhere - my wife's last two cars came from Rugby and Oxford so not exactly round the corner.

Missano Red is rubbish. You can only see it's a metallic when you are right up close. Not that I am biased or anything, but the A1 looks best in Floret Silver with a black roof. The Polo is OK, but the interior lets it down. Much cheaper feeling than the Audi, or even a Golf.

Edit: The GTI Being a GTi might make a little more sense, but having been lumbered with lesser versions of a Polo loan car on a few occasions I can't begin to see any merit in owning one - to me they're just a means for getting from A to B - the kind of car that's bought by people who don't like cars and just think the VW name will mean its a painless owning experience.

I was surprised to find out there are about 20 colours you can choose for an A1 - going by the ones I see, I guess that means about 16 of the tins have never been opened!

Not that I am biased or anything, but the A1 looks best in Floret Silver with a black roof. How's this then? Special limited-run "Contrast Line Plus" 1.4 TFSI manual (122 BHP) about which I can't find anything on the internet. March 2014, just over 8,000 on the clock. Looks like new apart from the suitably worn tyres and some dust/dirt under the bonnet. Rear parking sensors, sat nav, phone interface, climate control. Audi Approved used warranty which lasts 12 months. All going well, it'll be collected on Wednesday; I'll be somewhat sad to see her Fiesta traded in but I think this A1 may turn out to be a bit of a cracker

Not a huge A1 fan but that does look a good one. I don't think I have ever seen those wheels before.

I've only seen those wheels on those with the Quattro graphics (which I love by the way). Looks like a great little car.

Looks nice Chris, particulalry the black roof over silver, makes a change from whiter dog cock red on small wheels.

I shouldn't like those wheels but, actually, I do. Good looking car.

That looks nice. I think the 122bhp engine suits it well. The more powerful 185bhp version feels a bit much for this size of car IMO.

Nice. Get some Alloy Gators for the wheels...

I didn't used to like the A1, but I think that was mainly down to colour combinations. That combination really suits it and it looks very smart.

Very smart with nice wheels - is that roof grey rather than black or is it just the light?

You can get a dark grey roof, too, but I think that is a black one. Looks to be a nice one that. If it were me buying I'd have most likely looked for one with xenon headlights, but that's just me and my old eyes wanting the best lights...

Much better colour combination that the red one IMHO. I hope she looks after it.

The 1.4 TSI 122 feels quite nippy in a Golf so will be more than adequate for the A1. The silver with black roof does look better than I thought it would. The wheels would perhaps look a bit much for other colour combinations but works well with that one. You might find that tyres are bit more expensive than on her Fester though!

Nice. Get some Alloy Gators for the wheels... Indeed. How is her parking? When the tyres need replacing get some with raised ribs - they work really well and have saved the Jag wheels a couple of times (he admits ashamedly....) That A1 is a nice colour and spec and I'm sure she'll be very pleased with it.

The 3-door special editions appear to be called "Contrast Edition" but the dealers are advertising the 5-door Sportback specials as "Contrast Line Plus" models, no wonder I cannot find anything when "doing a google" for them ! I've treated Kitty to the alloy wheel & tyre insurance; the wheels appear to be 18" dia - a bit of an over-kill on a sub-4-metre supermini. I took it for a test drive before suggestings he look at the car and the ride is a little firm at low speeds but seems quite supple once you get to 30mph or more. Even below that speed, it's not bone-jarringly hard but I reckon that the Fiesta's ride is better, even on the 17" alloys that mine wears. Strange thing is that she doesn't like the look of the wheels whereas the rest of the family love them Edit: www.monmotors.com/used-car-details/used-audi-a1-sportback-14-tfsi-contrast-edition-plus-hatchback-ice-silver-metallic-manual-petrol-id_138637551455.aspxdescribed as "Contrast Line Plus again".......

An ex colleague ordered 18"s on his company Astra a few years back without realising the effect it had on the turning circle. It was quite amusing watching him try and turn the car round in our car park!

That Bristol Audi one isn't described as Contrast Line Plus, it says Contrast Edition Plus...
