So, due to bad weather on the Isle of Man yesterday, first practice for this year's TT was postponed to today.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting watching the BSB riders racing hard as you like round a rain-soaked, still raining, Donington Park. Currently on (I think) the third race leader due to the previous ones falling off, back tyres spinning up all over the place and not always able to catch it! Awesome stuff, big respect to all the riders.
I'm waiting for the first thread on FB/Twitter et al to comment about not running the practice for TT in less bad conditions - and the subsequent flaming!

I think when the run off on the TT is a wall/fence post/tree/pub/house or lamp-post as opposed to smooth tarmac and gravel for 95% of the time, the delay is perfectly reasonable.

Well, I guess that would be down to not understanding the nature of road versus circuit racing. Personally speaking, anyone who goes out on the IoM circuit deserves a bloody medal, with a damp let alone a wet track they more than take their lives in their hands and throw them down the road on the off chance they might get round in one piece. People should take a look at the accident stats for road racing against those for circuit racing and it is a tough read. Bloody big brass one's

They won't let the bikes run on the Island in anything less than dry conditions, lightly-damp patches being the limit and which are pointed out to the riders on the start line. They'll also hold them if rain, or mist, is imminent or forecast within the ensuing couple of hours.
