It does seem to be priced in line with the competition, and substantially cheaper than the Golf R. I don't think Ford are chasing volume anymore so can be a bit more bullish with their pricing.

There are no basic models - new one has a lot more stuff than before.
cont variable dampers, adaptive led headlights, radar cruise, 19” wheels etc

Good looking thing to be fair but yes it does seem expensive for what is only the very warm version rather then the RS

I must admit, having not paid much attention recently, that I was shocked at the price of the competition. In my head, Golfs GTI and R were £5k less than their actual respective costs (£33k and £36k).

So I can well imagine a GTI being nearer £30k. Wait until we have a no deal brexit and add a trade tariff to that.

I didn’t think prices have changed that much, just checked and yours lists at £23k without any options, so under £20k after discount. You can’t get a standard GTI any more, but the GTI performance can be had for £28k which I think is OK when you take the decent equipment level into account. You can already get a new Focus ST for £2k off, so £30k and the standard spec is very good as has been pointed out.

Whilst it'll no doubt be a great drive, it's too old school for me and doesn't look different enough from the standard car. I like an auto these days and there's no mention of one in that article. I doubt Ford would go to the trouble of fitting anything decent like VAG or BMW's offerings anyway.

There will be an auto (can’t remember the details)

I was just looking at list prices - £32,985 for the GTi Performance and £36,150 for the R. It doesn't look as if you can get either as a manual any more

Can't have a 3 door one either, I think.

I see that a Focus ST estate has been launched. Looks good from some angles and weird from others. But as a sporty load lugger, it should be of interest to quite a few people.

That sounds very appealing indeed. Estate, when it arrives, in a subtle grey, please.
I too didn't know Evo didn't really like the previous ST. I'd just assumed it was a given.

I love the ethos of hot hatches, but the current Focus ST has absolutely zero 'want one factor' for me, purely on the way it looks.
