I'd really rather they had an Alfa-like approach and said that all JLR products wod be built in the UK. But I guess that enormous EU sweetener to go to Slovakia was too great to ignore.
But I think the view that building JLR cars in Slovakia somehow makes them not proper JLR = British cars is disingenuous. After all, do the press or public consider that BMW's built in the USA or South Africa are not really BMW's? Or that an Audi built in Spain really an Audi at all? And so on and so on.
What I do say is that JLR employ a lot more people in the UK than Merc or VAG for example, so they are a darn sight more "British" than those brands. And if building some cars in Slovakia means that others still get built in the UK, then that's better than other alternatives. Rather like Cayennes (built in somewhere in the east if I remember correctly) fund 911's built in Germany.

Cayennes are also built in Slovakia.
Clearly there's some expertise there.

I think the Cayenne body is manufactured in Slovakia and then shipped backed to Leipzig for the germans to build it. I think the same factory builds the bodies for the Q7, Urus and Bentayga.

It'll be interesting to see how the production is covered when the car comes out, the motoring media barely mention the non-German manufacture of premium German branded products. I wonder if they will be as favourable to a British brand?
