I can imagine that getting a small child in and out via a child seat would be less easy than it could be.
And yet they won't consider an SUV ??

The back seat of any 3 series isn't the easiest to get in/out of due to the seat being slightly back from the door opening.

And yet they won't consider an SUV ?? Don't even go there. That said, plenty of people seem to cope just fine with estate cars. My sister and brother-in-law got themselves a Passat estate (company car) when their first child arrived and are now on Passat number 2 (a GTE) and child number 2 and still seem perfectly pleased with their choice of car from a practicality perspective. And they have to fit a Labrador and all his outdoorsy lifestyle kit in as well.
And, yes, I have also suggested a Passat. Tricky to get a current shape one with a decent engine/FG for £20k though.

Although many may not like them, we seem to be doing a very good job in this thread of explaining why SUV's are so popular with families.
I may be completely wrong, but I'd imagine that for £20k, if you want electric memory seats in a 3 series estate (with all the adjustment that your 4GC has - like do you also have tilt as well as up and down?) then you're fishing in quite a small, or older pool of cars?

I spent a lot of time last year looking at used 3 series estates and finding one in my choice of grey or black with electric seats was almost a miracle, even on an optioned up 335d or 340i That's why I started looking at 4 series, they're much more commonly fitted.

I gather the £20k is a soft limit. I think they'd go up to £25k for the right car.
