Just had the driving experience ,so here's what we did and some random thoughts. Cayenne 3.0d on road : didn't drive it as we have one so let my friend have my turn as well .
Macan 3.0d on road : written before about the macan so not much to say, this had the lane departure system which we spent a bit of time playing with ,very useful if you do massive miles.
Panamera 4.2d on road : wow ,fantastic machine .The interior is stunning and this had huge spec so massaging seats etc.Car is 5m long but drives like a 3 series sized car ,aided in this case by rws which was massively impressive.Very very fast for diesel,a truly fabulous car ,definitely raised the game in terms if driving dynamics for a large saloon .
Cayman & boxsters on kick plate etc: not much to say ,chassis on new models is fantastic ,engine effective but soulless .
Gt4 : driven by instructor on low grip surface ,sideways fun that never fails to amuse .
991.2s : 2 versions ..pdk 4wd & manual 2wd both on track : Not brave enough to get it unstuck,so much grip.Manual change was good but a bit vague compared to gt4,clutch very light .2wd car felt lighter on its feet and to my surprise felt a fair bit quicker ,4wd just felt invincible . I did not notice any lag ,but then again we were usually at higher revs .Engine revved out to just under 8000rpm ,doesn't sound as good as the n/a engines ,but it enables more useable speed and allows you to push the car chassis a bit harder .The chassis is stunning on these and neither had 4ws .

Good stuff! Two questions for you:
Are you tempted at all by a Panamera in future, or just very impressed and respectful of its breadth of abilities? And are you still glad to have ordered a 2WD GTS and not a 4WD version? Genuinely curious on that one because I'd probably go for the 4WD.

The panamera is very tempting if you want a large Saloon. Not sure I can see myself in one.
Re 4wd and 2wd.Tough one ,but my spec with 4wd is 120k which then makes it 991.2 turbo level . The grip on both is mind boggling and the 2wd feels lighter on its feet. If I only had one car I would go for 4wd to cover winter driving ,but since I have a nice car to use in shit weather the 2wd won out as it's slightly more fun . Gts day is next month so will get a better idea of the actual car I am getting as these were all regular 991s.

Forgot to say and this is controversial ,genuinely the pdk was more fun than the manual, the cars are so fast the fact you dont have to think as much about the gears and the fact you can keep your hands on the wheel made the car more enjoyable ,also significantly faster on the track . I really wasn't expecting to find that , you lose the interaction but gain a lot more .

Cheers. I'd like to have a go in these new 911s to see just how fast they are.
What do you reckon is the upper performance point where a fast car can still be more fun to drive really quickly as a manual? Is that performance point much above where the GT4 sits?

I drove a 991.1 GTS 2wd for a few hundred miles last year and was deeply impressed by it. A fantastic everyday car and you really wouldn't want for more. Don't know if I'm ready for PDK only though. Having driven my mates GT3 RS around Silverstone I do get the PDK being the better option in something really fast and when on track but for the road if I had the choice I'd stick with a manual.

I have no idea ,bear in mind my comment relates to the track and it's a short track .I found the gearchange sloppy compared to the gt4,I was having to think more about it than I would in the gt4. I would like to back to back on the road to see if I felt the same. They are very quick cars though ,the gts has just done a ring time of 7:22 ,
