Perhaps the V6 petrol has been hammered by WLTP regs and this is their solution? A diesel is never the answer.
Just call it a A4 50Tdi or whatever the fast ones are called now. The S models should be a Petrol, its a slippery slope towards a diesel RS4

@bob - that's as may be, but I just don't see the genie going back into the bottle at this point.

@bob - that's as may be, but I just don't see the genie going back into the bottle at this point. With latest medical research indicating that the smaller particles from petrol engines could carry more health risks than those from diesels, due to their smaller size and the fact they go deeper into the lungs, who knows?

Maybe but there's a bandwagon to be jumped on at the moment and legislatively that could begin the end - even though the issue of supply of raw materials for battery cars would very rapidly become a difficulty.

Nobody, because it's difficult to predict what bandwagon local authorities / central government / professional worriers will jump on next.
But as the current requirements are Euro IV for petrol and Euro VI for diesel, I'd think that legislative hurdles will take longer to catch up with Euro VI petrols than a Euro VI diesels.

You mean you see Politicians living up to their high ideals again, spouting ill informed propaganda and scare mongering about things they actually know nothing about - or maybe the lobbyists have just been very "persuasive" with whatever they use for persuasion!

Why do diesel exhausts tend to face down? I can understand that in the bad old sooty days, it would have helped disguise things - but if they are now as clean as it's suggested, what's the point?
That looks pants.

That looks pants. They often used to - for the reason you mentioned but they tend not to anymore - certainly I can't remember seeing this feature for quite a few years.
