I almost like that.... not in white, for sure, and ideally without a black headlining (lighter colours brighten up the interior)

The price, yikes. I wonder if it already comes with the standard near 20% off already.
Broken record alert, its a shame that the B58 will no longer power a compact BMW*. I'm sure that the tuned 2.0 litre unit will be fast and effective in every way, but it won't be a six.
*Unless you include the CLAR 2-Series, which will be RWD and have a six.

I really like that. Not the colours, though. White out and red in would definitely not be my choice. Also, like Piers, I'm not a fan of mis-shapen wheel arches but those are just about OK. I wasn't actually looking for a fast crossover when I went out to look at cars the other month but if I had've been I'd have probably waited to try this.
He mentions the SQ2 in the vid but I think I'd prefer the VW T-Roc version purely on looks. The next Q3/Q4 RS models will be a big leap from these in performance and price mefinks. Probably 400PS and nearing 60 grand.

Sounds like it’s a lot better to drive than the Cupra Ateca. On the subject of sound, ignoring the reduction of cylinders, why do so many manufactures think a sound similar to loose baffles in the exhaust (a rattle) is acceptable let alone a good thing?

Most of the 4 pot turbos since the mk5 GTI have have a diesel-y rattle at idle and this one is no different. It must be a method of making the exhaust sound a bit fruitier when the car is being used?

Going back to my earlier post, if an SQ3 turns up at some point in the future I wonder if it will be a diesel?

The SQ2 has been properly slated in the latest Evo. They’ve got a Cupra Ateca and Kodiaq vRS on long term test to add to the mostly older stuff they’re running plus a horrendous Brabus 650 convertible. So there’s nothing in the fast fleet I’m remotely interested in and it used to be one of the first sections I read.

I think that's the direct injection working. The X2 is lovely looking little SUV. I was quite tempted by one.

Just one question, what is it sbout folk talking about car sitting on them? I thought these folk LIKED cars, or is that just cars scratched up by folk sitting on them?

I'd never sit on a car. I guess the William Woollard foot-on-tyre stance is now not available in most cases because gap between tyre and arch is so small.

I've seen a couple of X2s and against my better judgement I like the look. However, they've got one in the latest CAR mag and comparing it against the new 3 it comes across very poorly.

I haven't opened my copy of Car yet so I don't know what the differences and criticisms are but I really don't think the overlap in the market for the X2 and the 3 series is very large. People who want a hatch don't normally want a saloon, people who want an elevated driving position normally don't want a car etc etc. I like the side profile of the X2 and the rear is pretty good too. However Racing once said the front grills looked upside down and I have never been able to unsee that. Overall though I like it and wouldn't expect it to handle or have the dynamics of the saloon which is supposed to be the benchmark in its class. Horses for courses.

I think they included it along the lines that a standard saloon is a shrinking market and more people are heading for small SUVs in this segment. There was also a Jag E Pace from that sector along with the Alfa Giulia, Merc C, Audi A3, Pug 508 and Lexus GS (?).

The only thing I can think of is that the interior of the X2 is very like the last generation of 3-Series, which all the reviewers are now saying looks dated, compared to the new 3-Series' interior. I'm not sure how you can judge one against the other in any other way -perhaps NVH?

They were certainly raving on about how fantastic the new 3's iDrive was compared with the alternatives so perhaps there's an upgrade above the X2 there as well? I think the X2 is heavier as well, although specific weights weren't mentioned for any of the competitors.

I've always been very impressed with the user friendliness of iDrive compared to similar systems in other marques. They should try Lexus'.

One hatch that I rather like is the A35 AMG. I like the A-Class design anyway, but an A35 without the aero kit almost looks like an A200 AMG. It has round tail pipes, and sounds decent for a four-pot.

That looks quite a bit different from the current 1 series but I hope the grills on the front view are just odd due to the angle.

That could just be an X2 under a dust sheet, there's no real context to see if it is a hatch or mini SUV.

FFS BMW take a break and let the janitors have a go at design, that looks poop so far.

I think it's a better application of the new BMW grille than the 3 Series - not by much, I grant you, but I could live with that.
It might be like when Audi put that awful "beard" grille on the B7 Audi A4. We hated it for a while and then got used to it.
