Has anyone else noticed that list prices for cars have shot up lately?
I had been thinking that new cars looked a bit pricey and then today happened to notice that base list price for my 440i GC is now £47,400, which is almost exactly what mine came to after adding nearly £5k's worth of options.
Checking back, the base list price was £42,790 when I ordered mine 2.5 yrs ago. So that's a price rise of around 11%.
Yikes.

Dundee City Council have put the price of a monthly car parking ticket up from £101 to £110 this month, that's a rise of 9%. It's gone up by 33% in 3 years.
I don't know anyone who is getting that sort of payrise, apart from the head of British Gas!

Prices have been sneaking up across the board on a lot of things not just cars. It’ll only get worse after we leave the EU with no deal on Friday and immediately have to impose 10% tariffs on EU built cars. I’ve been fortunate to have payrises based on being a more valuable employee to my employer but it’s difficult to feel better off right now.

No one cares how much the list price is, it's all about how much a month. Besides that, BMW do such huge discounts on most of their cars that the sticker price is pretty much meaningless anyway.

Yes but that was no different in October 2016 when I ordered my car. I got a £9.5k discount then and Broadspeed is currently showing a...£9.5k discount...

The new M340i is rumoured to be close to £60K in a decent spec. £10K more for an M5!

List prices matter for Company car tax..... Another reason why many are being taxed out of their company cars.

Prices have been sneaking up across the board on a lot of things not just cars. Too true. Camera lenses are a good example for me. Was looking at one particular Olympus macro lens last year, about £330, It's now around £420 and I won't be getting it. Plus there are used items around but again it will be a "no" from me for a while. Another lens I bought at The Photography Show last March was £400 and had gone up to £430 a few weeks before; I got it at £400 on offer (reduced from £430) and it's now over £450

A lot of the price rises are down to the weakness in the pound which is down about 20% after the Brexit referendum. Importers and manufacturers absorbed some of the movement after the pound fell initially but now these costs are being passed on to consumers.
