Hi folks,
Just stumbled back in here whilst trying to login to Retro Rides.
Not visited for a few years but good to see lots of new cars.
I'm still in touch vaguely with a few of you guys via FB which is my preferred choice nowadays for groups as logging in/out of forums proved a hassle.
I've been through a few car changes in the last few years. FRV was replaced by an X5 which I've still got. Too big now the kids have left home but don't have time to change it, MX5 still here, but was joined by a Beach Buggy for 12 months which I sold in last years heatwave as it proved too impractical really and I figured that was the best time to sell it. Now replaced by a MK1 Scirocco GLi, which might stay until summer.
I sold my business 18 months ago, so alongside some consulting have been doing some low level car trading but making money on they at volume is proving more hassle than consulting so it's being scaled back to buying bargains or cars I fancy (an opportunity to enjoy nice stuff at no cost).
Hope all is well with you all.

Hi and welcome back.
I think with car trading it is all about how well you buy. You will know the general 'going rate' for a particular car, so wait until you see a decent one at a good price. Even better if you can get a bit of enjoyment out of it for a few weeks or months before you sell. Classic car auctions are the places to find some cracking bargains.

Hello again sir! I think I may have seen you on FB via others' posts (mostly Colin and BB IIRC) but never sure enough to try adding you! Sounds like you're enjoying life in the main, which is something of an achievement in these times of woe. Re the forum log-ins; if you're not on a shared computer, once you're in & set up a short-cut, you're good to go with one click; it's what I do anyway. (I just know I'm going to get hit with a hundred reasons why I shouldn't do it now! )

Welcome back.
I have a friend from my racing days who has ditched his day job, built a big 3 to 4 car garage at his house and he is trading very successfully. He has about 12 to 15 cars at any one time and does the valeting himself. He has a local garage who do any mechanicals that are needed and he advertises on Auto-Trader. He is selling an average of 2 cars a week and lifting at least £1,000 from each car before costs. His biggest issue is replacing the cars he sells with good quality stock. However he goes to two auctions where the dealers supplying it are from affluent areas so most of the cars have had everything done to them and are well looked after. He stays away from the auctions where the cars come from smaller dealers or large groups since experience has shown him these tend to need a lot of work done.
He wishes he had done this years ago.
