Isn't the point of the i3 rex that you can too up that little tank to get you where you need to be. So there maybe irritation at frequently refueling but no range anxiety? While you’re not supposed to keep doing it, I’m sure you’re right. It would easily do the 100 mile each way trip.

Does she like the rear door on her current car? If so, that might help as will the ease of getting kids in/out with it being a bit more upright. Got to be worth a test drive.

What would the total range be with the motor charging the battery too? Must be a fair bit I would have thought. 200 miles in total. I thought the range extenders were about 250 miles and the electric only ones about half of that.

Apparently the latest have circa 300 mile range allowing them to drop the extender at some stage.

Well, a deal has been done. We have settled on the Mini in the OP. It is in 'as new' condition, with a very good spec and at a decent price compared to most, so we did the deal there and then this afternoon. We are having some bonnet stripes fitted and are picking it up on Friday. The test drive revealed just how much more refined and grown up this new model is compared to the old one, but still with the really sharp steering and handling we have come to expect from a Mini. The new engine seems more flexible than the old one as well. This was my first ever encounter with head up display and I liked it a lot. The sunroof is great, too. Looking forward to Friday!

That was quick, I like decisive action!
HUD is brilliant.

notwithstanding that I'm not a great fan of the dashboard. Steering wheel is weird, too. Looks upside down. Indeed. I've always thought the i3 steering wheel was on upside down.

Great choice - almost a snap! (I posted a photo in the 'Show us your Motor' thread earlier) - Ironically ours came with bonnet stripes and I didn't like them so they're now gone. The HUD is great, especially when using the sat nav. The MINI logo on the floor at night is a nice little touch too. As you say the increase in refinement and just the general feeling of quality over the older model is huge - everything from the quietness of the engine and the trim to the way the doors close - the only thing I don't like is that you can't dial up full power with the sport setting without the stiff suspension which can get a bit wearing on a long run.

Congratulations, sounds like a good choice - shame about the I3 though.

Insurance sorted ready for Friday. Old and new cars both covered for the whole of the day to ease handover. Total cost to change from old to new, including change in premium and admin charge = £0.00.
