Well, the local Ford dealer has let me down spectacularly this time round.
When I booked the Fiesta in for its annual service last February I mentioned that the climate control was not working correctly, with the interior fan running at full speed when you first started the engine irrespective of ambient temperature so long as it was below about 10C. On collection they told me that this was "normal" which it isn't as the car didn't do that for the first 18 months that I had it, and no other care I've driven with climate control does that either.
Over the past winter it's got worse to the extent that the climate runs, on start-up, at max fan speed and max heat, windscreen vents only being fed, until the interior is like a sauna. Adjustng the temperature dial has no effect.
So I booked it in for service and first MoT plus investigate the climate issue... should have gone in on Wednesday and Thursday but at 4:45pm on Tuesday as I am getting ready to take all my "stuff" out of the car, they call to say that due to an issue there will be no loan car on Wednesday, so can I re-book for Saturday? Long story short - the Fiesta was dropped off this morning and I've still not got it back. The loan car is a very dirty (inside and out) Fiesta Active 1 although it doesn't look that bad in the pic:
It's had a wash now ;-) but still needs a good vacuum inside and mud removing from the boot (no parcel shelf was supplied). With the fuel light glowing when I started it, first stop was the nearest petrol station. It's a "gown up" car compared to my 2016 Fiesta, much less chuckable and not really fun to drive despite having the same engine (Ecoboost 100). It's noticeably larger too. Steering seems good but not quite as much feedback as mine, ride is slightly more settled, the front seats have a large lumbar support bulge that even on its smallest setting prods me in the back in a seemingly uncomfortable way, although after an hour or more at the wheel I was surprised that I did not feel any pain when I got out of the car. The touchscreen is a bit of a pain to use and definitely requires a good look away from the road to adjust any setting, so I stopped at the first motorway services to set the radio up etc etc.
The lights switch resets to auto-lights every time you start the car, which is a real pain !
Despite having a 6-speed box instead of the 5-speed fitted to my car, it does not seem as economical.... having had to fuel it within the first few miles of driving it, the trip computer suggested a range of about 245 miles, but 40 or 50 miles later it was still giving a range of 230 ! I know I have a light right foot but even so.....
....and I didn't notice any 19-plate cars at the dealers when I took my car in, or on the roads today in around 120 miles of driving
