Saw a few Model 3 in San Diego - don’t like it at all.
This looks great, but not convinced by the spec claims and £35k price.

A vegan interior? Will it constantly tell the driver and passesngers that it is vegan?

Does that mean that anyone can eat it, if they get stuck in a long-enough traffic jam?

Like Cupra and DS etc, I really don't understand why Volvo / Geeley decided to launch a new brand. What happens when mainstream Volvos go EV? Utter brand confusion is what will happen.
In looks terms this is to the XC40 / XC60 what the Jag i-Pace is to the E Pace / F-Pace. A bit lower and smoother, but clearly recognisable as a Volvo. But it's not a Volvo, it's a Polestar......

Couldn't agree more, this multiple brand nonsense is silly at times. What's wrong with the core brand?

Good looking car that, particularly around the front and three quarters. I've no idea why they wouldn't call it a Volvo unless market research has suggested that early adopters who buy these things are more open to new technology being sold under a new brand, like Tesla, without all the old Volvo baggage.

I can sort of understand it - Polestar sounds modern and high-tech, whereas Volvo still has a whiff of the staid about it.

Everyone seems to want to move upmarket, and they seem to think that inventing a new marque will help........ VW re-launched an old marque to move upmarket with Audi. Toyota have had huge success inventing Lexus to move upmarket. Even Nissan has been successful with Infiniti in the States. People may be loyal to a brand but as they get wealthier they often want to move up upmarket so if you haven't got anything aspirational to keep them buying from your company you lose them. Exhibit A: Ford or Vauxhall.

Yes but Infiniti, and to a lesser extent Lexus, have struggled in the EU. Not sure how they've fared in the rest of the world.
And don't forget Merc's attempts at going further upmarket with, er, Christ, I can't remember what the jumbo S Class thing was called.
I'd say that if you're going to invent a new brand you need to be prepared to support it for at least 20 years in some markets.

You're right in saying you need to support it - it took VW a good 20 years to build Audi into what it is today and that took a lot of money and consistent branding/message over that time. It's paid off though, same with Lexus, they are now cash cows for VW and Toyota. You can't just do a Citroen, decide to invent the DS brand then not support it, or the laughable "Vignale" effort by Ford, which quickly became the "Ghia" of modern times.

I like their optimism, they assume everyone will drive at the speed limiter while paying 100% attention to the road. Fair enough, it's not like they'll have distractions in the car such as smartphones, is it?

In Saudi Arabia they have this truly annoying bell but it's a high pitch, ting, ting,ting,ting,ting,ting........ Used to get really agravating but it never stopped anyone. Favourite sport of the day was full size 4X4, slammed to the ground (I think that is the phrase) with the ground clearance of a roller skate. GP starts from traffic light to traffic light and sometimes through red to get there. How the sons of the wealthy get their kicks.
