Has anyone suggested a Mustang yet? You can get the V8 in budget. On a much lower budget you could get a Monaro. If you want a raw, unrefined driving experience try a Mini GP.

Does anyone else look at a car with something dangling from the RVM and automatically assume it's driven by a moron, or is it just me?

Not sure if you could stretch your budget to an early BMW M2? Noise and LSD sorted as standard. Prices of them are staying rather stubborn, buying one now could shield you from any silly prices in the future, whilst getting something with minimal depreciation.
I looooove the sound of the stock M2. One lives in a block of flats near my work, it always sounds utterly fabulous. So much nicer than a farty, desperate S55.

I haven't thought this through. I'll take all of them except the Porsches Burying your head in the sand isn’t the answer. It’s that sort of attitude that ends up with with you in an old fashioned Datsun with truck mirrors and when the reality sets in, a Micra seems the only way out! At the risk of being accused of not being a proper car enthusiast Porsches have just never done anything for me. Racing, I was looking at cars that are in the £20-30k range at the moment, a purchase is certainly not pending though.... I had thought of the Mustang but remember being a tad disappointed when I took one for a short test drive a couple of years ago, it didn't feel quite as fast as the 370/M5. I have thought of a 340/440 as a potential replacement for our existing 320d so maybe I should just pursue that idea and spend some of my budget bringing the M5 and Fiat up to as close to as-new condition as I can. That'd mean keeping the Micra though

The Nissan is a great looking car, and your chat leads me to one question. Why did you sell the 370z?
Was it really because of the mirrors?

I think to answer your initial question, there isn't much out there these days to fit your bill such is the decline of the 'cheap' sports car market.

The Nissan is a great looking car, and your chat leads me to one question. Why did you sell the 370z? Was it really because of the mirrors? Ha, no. It was sold to release the capital out of it to enable us to get some work done on the house - it's part funded replacing the kitchen, bathroom, shower room, downstairs bog. Also Mrs Tim changed job last summer and now no longer drops me off at work so we need 2 commuter cars, 370 was fine in the summer but wouldn't be great in the snow (not that we've had any) plus dawdling along in traffic at 50mph* on the commute seemed such a waste at less than 30mpg when the Micra (amongst others) can do 60+ and finally the 370 was going to be due a service, front tyres and front brakes so I reckon there was another £1k to spend there. So, all in all, it was a head over heart decision that we both sort of regret. *In my and the car's defence I did always manage to give it a bit of proper exercise at least once on every trip

So, all in all, it was a head over heart decision that we both sort of regret. Well, it is a bit of an extravagance having 2 sports cars in the household, Fiat coupe plus a 370Z. I note that your avatar is accompanied by the legend that you now have an Alphard as well.... really? How do you find it? Seen plenty when in Asia but only a handful of special imports over here

Seen plenty when in Asia but only a handful of special imports over here Thought I'd sneaked that in and got away with it! There are a lot of them round here. It's great fun in an odd sort of way. Ours still has the 8 seats but the place we bought it from do camper conversions so it has a pop-up roof like a lot of VW Transporters (except significantly cheaper). It's also the 3 litre V6 so its surprisingly quick despite only having a 4 speed auto. I'm a bit wary of going too fast in case the roof somehow pops up but I did briefly see 90 and it was effortless. It's got a lovely growl under load. The only sort-of negative is that the front and rear cameras are linked to the head unit which is still the Japanese market one so I need to learn to speak the lingo or change the head unit but lose the cameras. It also speaks to me when I start it from cold and I have no idea what its saying I presume its a welcome greeting.

No wonder you want to move house - you need more room to park all those cars!

I have sold many cars as a head, instead of heart, decision.
It's normally a rubbish idea. I still really miss my black GTI.

I understand. I miss my Alfa GT but that has always been tempered by the fact it was traded for an M5 When we sold the 370 Mrs Tim made me keep the cargo net so that we'd have one when we bought another 370 in a couple of years time. I may have to use that to twist her arm. Either that or buy her a cushion to sit on so she can see over the door mirror
