When I told Mrs Tim last night that 'our' 370 was still on the market she made comments about missing it greatly. However, she did say she thinks the oversize door mirror problem would probably now be enough to stop her really, really wanting another one.
So, I was trying to think what else there is on the market that is similar and I've had a total blank.
I think something like a 440i would be too refined and a Toyota GT86 would be lacking in cylinders and engine capacity. What the hell else is there currently around the £20-30k mark (new or used)?

These are a guilty pleasure of mine. Can't see them being a pleasure to drive but a V8 in a tiny car must be hilarious.

That 125 engine is pretty much the same as the 130 and can be tweaked easily to provide similar levels of oomph for a small outlay so certainly an option. That M3 looks pretty special and would be wasted on me but as a second/third car investment it would be a great buy!

M240i? Get a pre-particulate filter one and you can have the M Performance exhaust system for added drama. Slightly less refined.
Or like has been suggested, a 987 or even 981?

When I told Mrs Tim last night that 'our' 370 was still on the market she made comments about missing it greatly. Having downsized to a Micra, I'm not surprised ! How about a used C30 T5 ??

Hmm a few good ideas there. I'm really not excited by the thought of any Audi though.
The Nissan GT-R appeals but I'd be terrified of it breaking in an expensive way! Plus whatever car it turned out to be would be required for commuting so the GT-R might be a tad crippling in fuel costs.

I haven't thought this through. I'll take all of them except the Porsches

The Flying Spur will be the deepest moneypit imaginable. A classic Turbo R will be cheaper to run* and a nicer car.
* this is all relative. You will still need to budget around £2,000 to £3,000 per year on general servicing and 'matters arising', with the occasional £10,000 bill just for fun.

I haven't thought this through. I'll take all of them except the Porsches You will always get something like a Merc SL500 in that price range and many are low mileage well maintained and serviced. I had a client who ran one for a couple of years and replaced it with an SL350. He reckoned that both were very similar in mpg terms but the 500 was just effortless and sounded better. Low mileage BMW Z4 35i are also in that price bracket.

In reality I think a lot of things like the SL, any Bentley, etc is going to be too refined. I liked the 370 because it was quite, in old-fashioned language, hairy chested compared with things like the 140/240/340i. I'm not even sure a Z4 of any flavour would tick the boxes.
I just can't think anything modern apart from another 370.
EDIT What about a Jag XK, not the E Type shape one but the later versions?

I haven't thought this through. I'll take all of them except the Porsches Burying your head in the sand isn’t the answer. It’s that sort of attitude that ends up with with you in an old fashioned Datsun with truck mirrors and when the reality sets in, a Micra seems the only way out!

Basically the S54 engine from an E46 M3 in a rather smaller and lighter package.

My ex BIL had a Z4M Roadster. We’re going back about 10 years when I drove it but the engine was fantastic and sounded great with the roof down.

Strange spec on the M140i, basic nav is fine but it’s got all round parking sensors and HK speakers (missing from the description) but no heated seats. Adaptive dampers would be a must for me, along with memory seats as I hate the manual seat adjustment in BMWs.
A lot of car for the money though.
