Not my thing, but will be interesting to see how it compares to the Cupra Ateca, as it’s set up differently.

It's certainly going to make overtaking small SUV's a bit more difficult!

Well done VW. Launch a sporty SUV as the initial choice for your new sporty Spanish brand and then a week later announce the same car with a more desirable badge to guarantee that nobody buys the newly launched brand. Genius

I find that as desirable as a night out with Katie Hopkins.

From the information I found she has a specialty in losing law suits.

Fillled up opposite one of those Ateca Cupra R modeld in the grey with orange/gold wheels etc a couple of days ago.
Looked a bit naff to be honest but certainly shifted when it pulled away - albeit whilst sounding utterly boring.
Prediction - This VW will sell like like hot cakes

I think the Ateca is mid way between the T-Roc and Tiguan (length), not sure about interior space but probably not a huge amount in it.

They're all very similar. I have trouble telling the two Skodas apart and all the BMW X cars seem a similar size these days...

I find that as desirable as a night out with Katie Hopkins. Yep. Something that is uglier than a Golf R, will consume more fuel, slower and more expensive - step this way! I'm convinced that the SUV trend will decline as future emission targets get tougher. No substitute for a lighter car.

I'm convinced that the SUV trend will decline as future emission targets get tougher. No substitute for a lighter car. Most SUVs are based on a car platform, only higher, and the extra air underneath doesn't weigh anything, so I can't see that being a factor. I think that looks OK - visually a bit more interesting than a Golf R.

But the CO2 rating on these raised versions is always slightly higher, and even higher for stuff like the X5 compared with the conventional saloon. In light of what is coming in 2021, and more demanding targets in 2030, either consumers are going to have to go back to cars or more SUV’s are going to have to become plug-in hybrids to get the average fleet down.
