For someone who drives into London on many weekends this is a right shit and quite frankly a stupid idea. Where’s my yellow jacket.

You should all know about this, as it's the reason I bought the Ducati as my R1 was not ULEZ compliant.
It's quite simple: put your number plate into the TfL website and it'll tell you if your vehicle will attract the ULEZ or not. Compliant cars are almost anything post 2005 with a petrol engine; Euro 6 diseasals are compliant and bikes anything post 2007. At the moment it will only be the existing C-Charge zone but then it will be the North / South circular when they roll the cameras out.
Anything over 40 years old and a classic is exempt as are blue sticker cars, but you need to register with TfL.
Yes it's on top of the C-Charge and it applies all day every day all year.
From what I see every day a LOT of motorcyclists are going to get some hefty bills in April.

Yep. The entry points are rear of vehicle and there are lots of cameras that can do a capture.

Its the all day everyday that gets my back up. Totally unnecessary, you can usually sail into London on a Sunday morning

If restrictions get ever more heavy handed it won't take too long before people just drive around in cars that are uninsured and not registered to themselves.

It's the current congestion charging zone from April, and then as BB says, everywhere within the North/South Circular from 2021. With no resident's discount, unlike the CC.
So it rather blew a hole in my dreams to own a number of 80s/90s sportscars because they won't be eligible and it would be expensive and vastly annoying to pay everytime you got your weekend toy out. I could see a spike in the value of garages just outside the North/South Circular.
Minimum emission standards:
Petrol: Euro 4 Diesel: Euro 6
The ULEZ will be enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age. However: •Petrol cars that meet the ULEZ standards are generally those registered with the DVLA after 2005, although cars that meet the standards have been available since 2001 •Diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those registered with the DVLA after September 2015
What has confused me is that. for example, a 2003/4 Porsche Boxster S (986), which the interweb assures me is only Euro 3, comes up clear in the ULEZ checker - and I've tried the registration numbers of half a dozen just to be sure.

It’s only 50mins into central London from a station 10mins away or 35mins from MK, so unless I’m going to Wembley I always take the train. As much as I dislike public transport, First is a small premium at the weekend and it makes sense even without taking the congestion charge into account.
My 535d was built in Oct 2014 and was Euro 6, not sure how they managed it without using Adblue but I’m very glad they did. I think you could get Euro 6 diesel BMWs from around 2012 but you had to add an option, so I bet most won’t be compliant.

I find the attitude of London councils to be arrogant and far too condescending. I asked how they could justify removing parking spaces on housing estates and was told, "There is no reason to own a car in London so we see no reason to allow parking" and "If you need to get into London, get on the bloody train, that's what they are there for". So much for the train being used to take jobs to other parts of the UK.......

Although there was a vote on it before and it was rejected. Wouldn't really bother me though, I don't drive to work and my work supplies a foc bus pass. #buswanker

I avoid cities where possible and if I absolutely have to go to one, use a train or tram.

I avoid cities where possible and if I absolutely have to go to one, use a train or tram. My boss and 2 of my colleagues had to be in Sheffield (close to the city centre) this morning for a half-day meeting. Instead of driving from Basingstoke, they went by train on Monday afternoon and should have got back this evening. The cost was horrendous, always bad anyway when your outward and return journeys are on different days (about £80 each, each way, so around £480 in total!). With no company car in the business, if they had gone by road then one of them would have had to do all the driving as the company doesn't seem to hire cars (and they didn't want to use our Berlingo van, like I did last autumn when I went with a colleague to Burnley). It seats 3 abreast ahead of the cargo area

Hence why I don't go to cities very often! Manchester is pretty easy, as the tram is cheap and accessible from Timperley. And parking is free if you dump your car down a residential side street.

And it can be much quicker. I had to go to a meeting in Oxford recently. My clients were flying in and out same day from Heathrow, so I did the only logical and quick thing, which was to drive from my home in West London to T5, pick up the clients, and then drive them from Heathrow to Oxford. It only took about 50 minutes to get from Heathrow to our meeting in Oxford - I cannot think of a quicker way of doing it, and it was equally quick on the way back.
If, like me, you don't have a company car, you of course need to make sure your personal car is also insured for occasional business use, but that doesn't cost much I discovered (it added £20 to my annual policy).
