Sounds like a decent change, which was needed imo, be interesting to have a poke around one. The new screens look a lot better, but I’m still really against touchscreens and they need to have had a big power increase as the current system is slow.
Hopefully it will be competitive on finance / company car tax and sales improve.

Nobody appears to be a fan of touchscreens yet they're appearing everywhere.
Perhaps they're in anticipation of all these 15 year olds who are going to spring £40k+ for a mid-size executive car?

Agreed, Touchscreens I assume are a lot cheaper then buttons and dials and therefore we are forced down this road as nothing gets in the way of cost savings

I don’t know about the cost, I assumed it was because they look good/ modern in the brochures and the showroom, which a lot of them do to be fair. It’s the reality of using them that (literally!) takes the shine off.
A good voice control system is the best solution imo.

...XE has also picked up the duo pro system that I-Pace uses (which looks awesome) and ditched the cartoon type face dials buried in the grey plastic tubes for all variants (duo pro or not)..... ....the new 3 series interior looks rather cheap and the exterior looks daft with it's new corporate gonzo hooter.... "Corporate gonzo hooter" - love it! I reckon the exterior looks sharper and the car seems to have a better stance on the road. Interior wise, the changes to the dials and the lower controls look to be a big improvement. I always disliked the dials in the grey tubes. The i-Pace I drove had a really good interior feel, so if that has translated into the XE, showroom appeal will be massively improved. And it does seem, from what pete said about pricing, that they've finally got the value better. A lot of this stuff should have been standard from day 1. The big news for BIK is that the RDE-2 compliant which I think saves the 4% diesel surcharge. So that should help in the company market too. It is a real shame that bigger multi-cylinder engines are gone. But then 4 pot only (plus hybrids on the way) is not doing Volvo any harm and market punters (not petrol-heads obviously) accept (or more likely don't care) that a BMW 330i is a 4-pot.

Speaking of the i-pace, one of the leasing firms we use has the ipace EV400 S 294kW/90kWh for £610+vat a month with 6 down & 12k a year, whereas the Tesla Model S 241kW/75kWh is £851+vat with the same 6 down & 12k.

I tend to the view that if I have to choose between a turbo four in a large car, or electricity, I might as well go electric.
If it's not going to make an attractive noise, then I'd rather it made no noise.
It's not that all 4-pots are awful - far from it - Alfa did some fine n/a ones, as did VW and BMW in their day - but the turbo'd fours in most modern "sports" saloons and hatches are just dreary.

I'm tending to agree. However, having just done 400 miles over 2 days I'd like to see better range and more non-Tesla charging infrastructure in place first.

By the time I get home I’ll have done nearly 400miles today, will be a few years before that will work

I'm with Racing on the electric thing - I'd consider one, if I was considering 4 pots and/or diesels. The idea appeals. But I'm another one that does big miles in short irregular stints, charging does not suit that. My recent drive down to Nuremberg - driving through the night and next morning - really would not have worked, the only time we stopped for long enough even for a part charge was at the Tunnel. Then only because it was delayed...
I like the look of the new XE. I didn't mind the old one, it was not perfect (interior acceptable but really nowhere near as nice as the XFR's - even the old one) but in the late 380bhp V6 guise it drove very well indeed. I may still look up those models SH in future, some are around with silly low mileages - however I do hear of reliability issues, I would research it first. If this 380bhp SC V6 was in the new car, it would definitely be on the list, shame...

I am probably outside of the main demographic for these brands but if I were in the market I would go for a Jag every time. Not sure about those touch screens but then I rarely change anything on the move setting things up before I set off and no mobile in the car (Not switched on) removes the need for handshaking or whatnot. My question is, do we really NEED all the bells and whistles that seem to be fitted these days? I have a few switches and thats all, does me well enough. I know, old git mode off.

I wonder if PSA would consider taking a majority stake in JLR. It would give PSA immediate access to the premium market, and a footing in the US market which could be expanded upon. For JLR, it could tap into PSA's smaller combustion units, their electrified powertrains and future platforms. The I-Pace's arrival to market has been impressive, but I can't help but feel that JLR can't do R&D on its own. Tata haven't got a parent company that can help with what JLR needs. Tavares could be the man for the job, he has bough growth and profit to Vauxhall/Opel after years of GM failure.

I think that rather than benefit JLR, it would further degrade them. Nor would PSA get much return either. Was there a mutual benefit from Ford ownership?

The trouble with Ford ownership was that Jaguars it the day such as the X Type and S Type were badge engineered Fords or Lincolns and were simply not good enough with interiors full of Ford switchgear that made it obvious that the cars were based on inferior products. The Tata Nano is light years behind any JLR product but because it shares no part with them no one’s the wiser. Ford tried too hard to build global economies of scale and ended up diluting their brands. Good brand management can easily avoid this.

I’ve spent a bit of time in a new F Pace, 2.0d but decent spec so smooth leather, nice headlining, panoramic roof. One of my team rented it from Enterprise as his company car is having some work done. It didn’t start well, flat tyre 3 miles from collecting it which turned out to be a broken valve so the tyre gunk didn’t work and it ended up on an AA Flatbed. Not sure you can blame JLR for that though.
It’s a bit of a mixed bag, some nice materials but also some hollow hard plastics, it didn’t have the digital dash so looked a bit dated inside and the panoramic roof cover is very thing and flimsy looking. . Despite being a 4 pot diesel it was pretty refined and smooth. Not sure on the wheel size, but they were small and despite that it doesn’t ride particularly well, not as good as the Golf I’m comfort mode and certainly not as good as you’d expect, but it is better than the M sport X4. No more room inside that a Golf either, but the boot is a lot bigger.
Disappointing overall.
