Well it just chucked down a very curious mix of hail and snow here in the City of London. There was a single almighty flash and clap of thunder, and then the heavens just opened. Dumped enough in five minutes to momentarily whiten roofs, cars and outside tables.
Eased off (and melted) now but still sleet/hailing.

We had blizzards this morning but it has all gone in the village. There looks to be plenty on the fells though.

Got in my car yesterday at lunchtime and it was -11.5 deg. By the time I got back it was -10.5 deg. Something is not right.

Had to scrape ice off the windscreen this morning at home and it’s sleeting in Swindon.

Normally I can just sail through the Tyne Tunnel unimpeded as there are plenty of automatic toll booths but yesterday there was huge tailbacks and I couldn't understand why. Pre-paid account holders like myself used to get a disc for the windscreen but now they've brought in ANPR. Cue a bit of snow covering the plates, ANPR doesn't work, and they have to have staff out cleaning the plates of the cars before they go through the toll booths. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/long-delays-tyne-tunnel-snow-16069362I wonder if there's a market for an aerosol snow spray that you could use during the winter to obscure your plates? I'm sure there would be no advantage to that would there? If stopped you'd just apologise and say it must have snowed during the night...

Ice alert warning light was on yesterday for ll my commute to and from work. Was on again this morning. Yet only on Monday when I drove home, it was 16 deg on the car thermometer.

Sounds like the title of something depressing... It’s fits well with the place, which is particularly depressing today for a variety of reasons.

It’s fits well with the place, which is particularly depressing today for a variety of reasons. Not in the least the A&N store closing. Don't forget I used to work in Swindon (the western outskirts); I find it quite a good place, just a shame that there weren't more jobs in manufacturing available when my former employers there culled the headcount by about 30%

Swapping back to summers on the Golf tomorrow. I’ve not driven it all week, but Lindsay was complaining earlier that it wasn’t particularly fun today coming back (B Roads) from Head Office. Apparently it felt like it was ‘squirming ‘ around a bit and there was some tyre squeal exiting the tighter corners. It’s been OK on the Crossclimates around 10-12c, but sounds like they’re not great when it warms up.

Summer wheels polished and back on this morning. Looks great, got used to seeing it in 18s and it looks even better on the bigger wheels.

And they squeal as well, which suggests sliding rather than gripping. Need to get my Potenzas back on asap.

All that Easter heatwave makes me think that I really ought to get the summers back on the XFR...... Wow! The all season tyres aren't great when it gets up to the high teens centigrade, winters must be awful!

It's an excellent tyre for all year round use. +1 They have been excellent on our Captur through winter and last year's hot summer. It's just that a higher performance car can overwhelm Crossclimates rather more easily than performance tyres. I can highly recommend Crossclimates, they suit the Captur very well, Chris.

I wouldn't say they were the last word in finesse, but they're perfectly OK unless you want to emulate an F1 driver. I think it was Steve Sutcliffe who said that he preferred the XKR he had on winter tyres to summer tyres. Mind you, my summers are Dunlops which I'm not a huge fan of, but I can't justify four new tyres with tread left.
