90 grand for a 4-series does seem a bit excessive

Skimming the market with this one.
Can't quite work out why its so expensive?

Skimming the market with this one. Can't quite work out why its so expensive? Because the values of the last CS they did - the E46 M3 - have risen quite a lot, BMW are just pre-empting the collector market a bit.
It's not for me, apart from the colour, but if I had to choose between that and a 911 it'd be the BM all the way.

Mental money. Obviously an accountant has been allowed to decide the price of that!
There is far more attractive machinery available for the same money in my opinion and on today's roads the ultimate time round the Ring is really pretty academic for 95% of buyers.

Nice colour, but a bit Halfords.

Nice colour. But that is bonkers money. The list price of an M6 GC is "only" £5k more and I suspect that will be subject to a healthy discount.

Absurd pricing, no manual gearbox option, not much more power or less weight than the Competition Pack car. It's a big thumbs down from me. Shame!

I think they might just have gone a bit nuts, they are going too far with this "Just charge them tons of money and they will come running" and that punters are gagging for a financial rape session. Used to be they were more responsible to their brand but they they seem not so worried these days.

An awful lot to pay for a better set of wheels. Still, I'd prefer some BBS CS style alternative.

There are virtually zero mile pre registered M4's with the Competition pack on the market for very low £50K's which is at least £10K off, so something somewhere isn't right when you can't sell one of your halo products.
The CS appears to have lost a lot of the standard car's features which make everyday driving easier - that will only appeal to a very small market and given the alternatives available at £90K and the very small gains over an M4 with Competition Pack, I can only see the price heading south very quickly after purchase.
As PG said, an M6 GC is about the same list price, comes with a V8 and can be had with £20K off.

Isn't that because they are pre-facelift cars?

No, it's because they're called M4. The Halo product is and always was called M3. We've had this debate......

Price does seem to render it an irrelevance. What was the premium for an E46 CSL back in the day over a regular M3?

Price does seem to render it an irrelevance. What was the premium for an E46 CSL back in the day over a regular M3? Wasn't it about £2k? From what I remember it was fully optioned with the choice of gearboxes and different wheels and suspension. Can't recall if it had more power or not though.
Or is that the CS I'm thinking of?

That's the CS.

I seem to remember the CSL being relatively expensive and wasn't shifting particularly well at launch.

CSL was about £54k when the standard M3 was about £39k before options. I was offered a cancelled order CSL about 3 months after taking delivery of my E46 M3 back in 2003, and said no thank you.

I reckon it must be me, a lot of the newer designs tend to be over styled, almost as if they have been over inflated. I can hear a little voice from my youth saying "Rubbish, cars were cars in my day, these are rubbish". Oh the horror of it.

When BMW starts copying Alfa Romeo, you know the folks in Italy must be doing something right. I’ve seen that spoiler design somewhere before…
Interesting that there is no manual option. Ordinarily you might think demand would be minuscule, but America is the biggest market for manual M4’s and considering that is where the bulk of CS’s will probably be sold, I think the manual would have been worth offering.

I saw my first Giulia Quadrifoglio in the wild (well near my house) on Sunday. In black, it looked remarkably low-key front and side on as it passed, all things considered.
