I like the look of the front of the new A class and this looks far more successful than the previous gawky looking CLA. If they carry on like the the CLA estate could be quite a desirable little thing.

It does look better and appears to have had a bum lift to sort the saggy arse the old one had.
Interesting that it's being revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show as opposed to a car orientated event. Cars as white goods anyone?

True. I test-drove the old estate version in AMG45 flavour and liked it as a car in nearly all respects except for the engine note, which sounded like a crazed washing machine, and the ride which was simply uncomfortable. That and I agree the styling suffered from too short a wheelbase compared to the overall length, meaning the overhangs fore and aft looked stupidly big.

By the sounds of it he bought a Bosch!

The dishwasher is a Bosch but I confess I cannot remember what brand our washing machine is...

I heard an AMG45 being given some welly and it sounded like a tin of angry bees interspersed with some comedy farting on upshifts. If I had £40k to spend on one of these I'd rather put it into something with a decent number of cylinders and a real engine note.

They do sound awful from the outside, I’ve not driven one so can’t have a view on which appliance it sounds like.

Handsome car. Would prefer a fastback, but the rumoured to be forthcoming BMW 2GC will fill in that gap.
There are lots of interesting cars about to be released but they'll all be here too late for me to buy/lease I reckon.
Golf VIII 1 series III A3 IV 2 series II This CLA and the GLA maybe Go faster version of X2 (about time there was a petrol X-Drive version) SQ2 (perhaps not!)

It still looks like the front end of a completely different car, from a completely different manufacturer has been grafted on to it.

The rear looks way better than on the first gen car, that always looked overly droopy. So overall externally, an improvement.
I'm really not sure about the interior. All those metallic (plastiminium?) air vents and a driver interface that looks like a widescreen TV stuck in front of the driver. All very bling.

Apparently it's the same length as a C Class.

do Mercedes sell the A-Class saloon in this country?, if so, why? why have two saloon roughly of the same size, one that clearly looks way better than the other and is much more desirable. I think, for a small(ish) saloon, that looks superb

They do and, having looked at it in comparison with the CLA, I don't reckon there's a lot in it looks-wise. It probably has more rear headroom!

Wait, there's an A class saloon? As well as the CLA? Which is also a saloon?
Is there a CLC? Or CLE?
Wait. I don't really care come to think of it. Mercedes have a long history of muddying the niche waters with increasingly tenuous models and naming structures.

It's gonna get verse viz ze Germans. Next iteration of the 2 series will include a 5 door Gran Coupe and the A3 is also getting some sort of coupe added to the range, even though the TT is effectively one already! Not sure how many doors it will have, though.

7, probably. Because, well, just because it's niche, innit?
