This involves a bit of fantasy and putting yourself in the shoes of another.
Discovered that one of my senior colleagues is a complete petrolhead. As in he uses a 2008 CL65 AMG as his "station car"...all 600+ bhp of it.
Anyway, he tells me he wants to replace his current weekend toy (a Porsche 991 Turbo S convertible in tart's white) as he is bored with it. Prior to that he had a V12 Vantage.
His budget is £100k and he prefers a car that will depreciate as little as possible whilst still providing a thrill.
So...thoughts?

Well below budget and a bit left field, how about a Megane R26R, or even a Clio V6.

I think we can safely assume that he wants something akin to a 911 or Aston, and that hot hatches, however excellent, aren't what he's after.
I could only think of a Cayman GT4.

Won't lose money on either, likely they will increase in value.
I know what you mean though.

There are deposits available on the new TVR Griffith. Can’t promise it will ever get built or that he won’t lose money mind.
Failing that, putting a budget of £75-100k in Autotrader brings up a Gallardo V10. That would be a hoot, I’m sure. There are four McLarens at just under £100k too.
It’s a nice position to be in, for sure.

Cayman GT4 seems the obvious choice and certainly a good one for a weekend toy. There’s a few 991 GT3’s around the £100k mark if he wants something bigger.
Straying away from the obvious, how about the new NSX? They start at just over £100k on AT.

Each oval piston had two conrods, so BigBlue is correct in that had a "V8 configuration", think of the pistons as linked together.

Sensible answers:
M4 DTM Edition Used F430 Jaguar F-Type SVR (but will be worthless within weeks) Used McLaren 12C Merc AMG GT Morgan Aero Various 911 variants but he’s already bored with this one.

It’s a nice position to be in, for sure. Indeed, £100k on a week-end toy ! Some sort of Cayman GT-something, or maybe an Alpine (or is that too cheap for him?)

My wealthiest friend's weekend toy is a Boxster Spyder. He has had a GT3 and a Cayman GTS but he keeps the Boxster. His daily is now a Golf R to go with his wife's Range Rover and he keeps his Ducatti for sunny days when he's not racing his historical single seater somewhere in the world!

His budget is £100k and he prefers a car that will depreciate as little as possible whilst still providing a thrill. So...thoughts? About the only things that seem not to depreciate are special edition Porsche's (as already suggested) or something classic or that is going to be a classic. But I doubt classics would give him the thrill? So, going left field - RRS SVR. The only person I know with one traded it back a year later for the same as he paid for it and got another one. They will give him a thrill in a bonkers way. Tesla S, the P100D = the warp-factor one. OK, it's not petrol, but it will give him a thrill.

Search out an R8 v10 plus or rws. I’d personally have a 991.1 GT3. Otherwise 115k will we you in a McLaren 570s which aid all sorts of next level apparently

Wow, how much are they new these days? In my head they were around 70k? 135k plus VAT nowadays. Wow; is it a case of it can be far cheaper but then it ends up in that area of lots of cars performance cars; many being established and well known marques, around the £60k-£80k price so it doesn't stand out and so therefore doesn't sell, so the price is bumped up to a pretty hefty level and then all of a sudden the super rich notice it and it then sells? I've seen one of these on the road, it was a couple of years ago parked up in the dark, on the High Street in Ripley (Surrey), I assumed it was a local car as its not the sort of car anyone would likely drive a fair distance in.

We had a dealer in Sunningdale for a while, so it was probably from there. But we do sometimes ship other cars around from the factory for photo shoots and magazine stuff.
Speaking of distance driving, one of our customers lives in Jersey and had arranged to bring it back to us for a service. He usually trailers it. On the day he was bringing it back, I could hear a familiar exhaust note outside and when I did a head count of all the cars in the shop, realised that all were accounted for. He'd only hopped the ferry and dtiven all the way from Southampton to Liverpool.

Surprised at the price. These were expensive when they were launched, and still a stunning looking bike. I had a Tamiya model that I made of one- I think my dad might still have it. Maybe something electric? Different option, and great for acceleration, maybe a Tesla P100 or something like that. A Huracan would also be pretty cool.

A used 911 (or just keep the current one), an Ariel Atom and a good helmet - driving thrills don't come much bigger than the Atom but the 911 is useful when it rains.

Some good suggestions. Personally I’d like the AMG GTs or the R8 V10, especially an open R8 V10.
