The parking spaces where I work are 2.1m wide. I know that's a silly way to look at buying a car, but when you drive a small hatchback you can't get out of most days it does put you off getting anything bigger! I'd be adding the parking bobbins to the spec list

I use full throttle a lot more in the Golf than I do the 750, partly because I can without the TC light flashing (unless it’s dry), partly because the 750 is a lot quicker and partly because the 750 has a lot more torque. Full throttle in the Golf also means power goes to the rear, which sharpens up the way it goes around a corner.

I have to admit I regularly use full throttle out of bends or roundabouts and the difference to my old car (which was basically the same car in RWD) is marked. On a track, in a Go Kart etc, I am happy to have lots of oversteer but on the road 4WD just keeps everything where it should be pointing with little drama. My car can easily be provoked into tail out behaviour but that would be a conscious decision to have some fun rather than being caught unexpectedly by less grip than I was expecting. I am definitely a 4WD convert.

I use full throttle a lot - not surprising in a 1.5 or 2.0 diesel but I certainly made a concerted effort to do it every trip in the 370 as well - what's the point in having a car like that and not using the performance if its safe to do so.

Interestingly, I’ve jus5 found an couple of old Autocars in the side pocket of my overnight case, one of which is the Aug 17 issue with an “18-Page Hot Hatch Mega-Test”.
I’m picking out the bits that support my point (as you’d expect!), but they articulate the issue I have with the M140i pretty well, which is why I was so disappointed with a car I wanted to really like and before any test drives was the one I thought we’d end up with.
M140i - The chassis never seems to settle into the road surface. The ride is busy in anything other than the softest damper mode, but still the car feels like it’s sitting up on stilts. It tips and leans this way and that, like a wonky table leg, never falling over but always feeling like it might do. The woolly steering and slightly sloppy body control mean you never feel completely at one with the M140i. The lack of an LSD is a problem too, you just don’t know what it’s going to do when you get back on the power.....etc.
Golf R - Nothing comparable rides an uneven B-Road with the mastery of an adaptive damped Golf R, which has the compliance and chassis dexterity to smooth surface ridges away and filter out nasty imperfections quite brilliantly.

So much for "The ultimate driving machine"..... It is if it is on the kind of road surfaces we should have in this country! However manufacturers who find that difficult balance between control and absorption will always win on British roads.

I've never bought into this "ultimate driving machine" but come on... I think the writer has been to the Jeremy Clarkson school of motoring journalism.

Have you bought Racing's BMW after falling love with the colour after seeing it in the metal?

I’m guessing some sort of fast mini. Hyundai N30? But AWD was supposedly one "essential requirement". Does the N30 have AWD? I thought it didn't

Ergo my flippant Mustang comment (it would never fit in his parking bay).

I’m guessing surprising because it isn’t an Audi.

Surprising - so not an Audi. Golf R's second hand crossed my mind but that was rules out earlier on, I think? Probably is AWD. And small enough to park easily.
Mini Clubman JCW AWD?
