Very nice. It's a good-looking car. It is indeed. That colour really suits it.

HA! Did the get they 7 Speed DSG version too? My better 3/4 finds that the gearbox is more of an issue than the performance... (though it is only the first day she has driven it!) She is only in "comfort" mode though, which incidentally rides better on its 19" wheels than the Ibiza did on its 16" wheels.
I am happy so far...
Welcome back. Hope things are improving for you, as others have said. Interesting comment about other halfs thinking cars are too fast. Mrs R used to hate it when I gave it full beans in the Volvo, complaining it made her tummy feel funny. Like that was a bad thing?! How are you finding 280 odd bhp through the front wheels. At the moment I am just running it in (I am old fashioned like that), I have given it a bit of run from about 40-70(ish) in "nutter mode" and at those speeds it just hooks up and goes. Once the weather improves I will report back, it is a (well mannered) thug of a thing though, it just wafts about in "comfort" mode. Thanks to you (and all) for the kind words too!

My other half has never complained about a car being too fast, not found her limit yet. I’m more likely to ask her to slow down, I’m not the best passenger, which is why I drive 95% of the time. She’s actually a very good driver, quick and smooth.
Wait until it’s done a few thousand miles, it really does go well. Compared to what I’ve been used to over the last few years, it’s a bit lacking in torque, but it means it’s well worth using the full rev range, so there’s a lot more to come when you’ve run it in.

Looks excellent, the Leon is a nice car anyway so having a Cupra model is a nice bonus on that. It’s good that they’ve managed to sort their WLTP ratings. I’ve heard rumours that VW have a shit load of Golfs stored up at Bruntingthorpe that will likely have to be scrapped because they can’t get them registered and they’ll be too old to sell as new by the time they do.
Like the colour of your Cupra, it definitely suits it without being too understated.

Yes, but scrapping a load of cars just because....??
Perhaps instead of crushing them, they could re-export them to a country with much less stringent emissions regs etc, that also drives on the left?

I'm not sure that'll be the case. In the US they have bought back over 300,000 VW diesels and are holding them in 37 secure storage locations. Many are being modified and drip fed back into the dealer network, while others will be exported to other countries.

I had a strange "getting you know you" moment with the car earlier, I was reversing into a parking space at a local supermarket. The lines marking the space were not parallel to each other and I wanted to see where the line adjacent to the car was, so while reversing I opened the drivers door ("old skool style"). Anyway, the car was having none of this and stopped immediately... it was a bit of a shock, like I had driven into a pillow or something as there was no impact but the car stopped. I am sure it is a "feature", but odd...
Has anyone else experienced such a thing on a car?

Weird. I might try it on the Octavia.

At times it can be a pain in the neck when you just want to check how close to the kerb you are

You can set the position of the mirror when it dips, horizontally as well as vertically, clever stuff. 3D Surround View in the 7, so no need for dipping mirrors or opening the door.

I can't remember the last time I had cause to open the door of a moving car....... I just gave you one, that wasn't the question.
And no, I didn't stop the car with the handbrake by accident...

Golf is the same but Stu’s Octavia won’t because it’s got a manual handbrake. You also won’t be able to drive off with the door not closed properly. The dipping mirror is a good idea but only works if you leave the adjustment knob set to L, which is fine most of the year but a minor nuisance this time of year when you have to keep turning it back to the heating setting.

You have to release the parking brake manually if you haven't got the seatbelt on as well.

but a minor nuisance this time of year when you have to keep turning it back to the heating setting. That is a VAG failing. I really can't see why the position has to be in the middle to get the door mirror heating to work. Thankfully BMW don't work that way and they heat whenever the rear window demister is on, regardless of the position of the switch.

When we had that cold winter (2010?) I left my Golf's mirrors heating on all the time. The fucking glass fell out of them! Much better to be off the rear window and on a timer like virtually every other manufacturer does it.

Thankfully BMW don't work that way and they heat whenever the rear window demister is on, regardless of the position of the switch. It's on the far right, opposite the fold position now and is clearly marked, but I agree with your point. Had to use them for the first time on Monday evening, took me a couple of seconds to work out why they were still fogged up as I had the rear window heater on. It's an unnecessary bit of (minor) hassle. The only other thing which annoys me so far is the delay when you want to wash the windscreen, the headlight washers are instant (which I don't want), but it take a second or so for the washers to start spraying water. In the BMW, you get a decent amount of water instantly (triple fan jets), so you can decide how much water you want then activate the wipers, which I find useful at this time of year. In contrast, the rear wash/wipe in the Golf is excellent. One short push of the stalk and you get a decent amount of water instantly, then the wiper activates at exactly the right time to give you a completely clear rear screen, with an extra wipe a couple of seconds later.
