New small VW 4x4 which is apparently different to the T-Roc:

VAG stuff seems to be getting less differentiated. Looks entirely like a Seat Ateca.

Predictable.
Does anyone remember the CAR mag front cover from years ago when they had a froth about manufacturer model ranges looking the same - I think it was in the era of the Citroen ZX (which was bland).
Well I think that we're at that now but across a whole section of the industry and while the cars aren't bland as such they are all full of the same technical styling details that if you swapped the badges you might be hard pressed to identify whose it was.
There are a few that escape that but, for example, my neighbour across the road has a grey 2013 model Honda Civic and when I look at it the front of it now I see the Micra's big brother!

People have become more and more conservative design wise and manufacturers are reacting to this. You see it in house styles, clothes, consumer goods. Any manufacturer who tries anything slightly out of the ordinary is met with a flurry of online negativity.

It doesn't stop them though does it?
The BMW X7 appears a perfect example but they could try something different. They could try sleek and simple. Don't these technical designs age badly?

So if the T-Roc is the VW take on the Q2, then this must be the "Q1" that Audi don't have (yet..).
Actually it looks quite well proportioned and I'm sure will sell really well. But it is dull.

So where does it sit in the range, is it smaller than the T-Roc, which isn't actually that big?

So where does it sit in the range, is it smaller than the T-Roc, which isn't actually that big? The interview with the VW bloke on the Autocar site makes this crystal clear. This is more versatile because it’s rear seat can move 15mm and the T-Roc is more about power and status as it’s available with more engines. I’m surprised that’s not obvious to everyone...

Now you've mentioned it it is really obvious. How could we be so stupid?

I thought the same when I read it. Initially I'd foolishly thought this is another version of the same car they make ten times across their brands but when I learn the rear seat moves through the gigantic range of 15mm I knew it was pure versatility.

I assumed 15mm was a typo?.....150mm may make more sense.
I thought it went like this
Up SUV is the TCross Polo SUV is the TRoc Golf SUV is the Tiguan Passat SUV is the Tiguan XL Areteon SUV is the Toureg

Hang on a second.
Isn't the Arteon the new Passat CC or do they still make the Passat CC?

I think this is Polo sized as is the T-Roc but I'm sure I read that VW don't feel the need to replace the Scirrocco as they've got that. So I assume the T-Roc is more of a coupe version of the T-Cross. I understood the Arteon to have replaced the CC.

No, no, no. The Arteon has absolutely not replaced the Passat CC. It is a totally different and way more upmarket car. Didn't you get the press release on that one?

Ah, of course, upmarket!
I read that VW are planning to move upmarket starting with the Golf Mk8.
Don't they already have that in a little known brand called Audi?

Sorry, I need to go on a re-education programme. It seems all VW brands have to move upmarket just as they all have to be sporty. Even the cheaper sporty brand, Seat, now has a sporty offshoot in the form of Cupra. No wonder they're all converging on each other to make the same car over and over again.

They might was well do what BMC used to do and just stick different grilles and badges on the same car.
