It's not really a surprise as it has been leaked and previewedd so many times, but how on earth did that grille get signed off? The X7 is having two effects. (1) It makes the Cullinan look a well resolved design (2) It makes a Q7 / Q8 look good (in a relative sense and not an absolute sense) Although I'm not sure either of those are what the designer intended. www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/range-topping-bmw-x7-rivals-mercedes-benz-gls

Utterly awful. If you can bear to look at the pictures closeup then, as with the new 3 series, it appears the top of the grille is a fake and there's a black finishers panel that follows the line formed from the front of the bonnet. For some reason they've chosen to extend the chrome bits above that giving it a sort of Bugs Bunny effect.
Not sure what's going on with the 2 bright strips in the lower bumper either, one appears to be chrome and the other just silver giving another visual conflict to go with all the disjointed lines, vents and creases.
I reckon I could do a better job, unless the aim is actually to draw something that is hard to like?

That's extremely horrid. I imagine it will sell very well in the USA, China and Russia.
I agree the Q7 is starting to look like a model of subdued good taste by comparison. In a side note, the SQ7 is the first diesel I've heard which sounds passable - definitely a V8 burble.

If that was from some Chinese manufacturer we would all be ignoring it on the basis it has no chance. It looks a bit Merc GL to me at the back but just atrocious at the front.

The overall shape reminds me more of a Landcruiser. That perhaps says something about BMW’s target market.

It looks like something out of China, that's been done in the worst possible taste (to quote the late Kenny Everett)

Assuming the wheels are around 22 inch, then I’d speculate those grills are likely to be the size of a decent flat screen television. The styling of a lot of SUVs is utterly infantile. Who does this appeal too?

I was looking at the pictures in the mag last night and hadn't previously noticed just how odd the back end is, especially the top half. It actually looks as if they've modelled it on the previous shape Range Rover (L322?) and updated it to add tackiness, it appears about 15 years old to my eyes (which have clearly been damaged by looking at too many new BMW concepts).

Who does this appeal to? Chinese and Arabs. A colleague related that the rich Arab owner of an hotel near him has a gold coloured Bentley which looks hideous and stands out like a dog poo on a white carpet. Then I reflected that some people I know with proper money would never begin to imagine such an ostentatious show of wealth, but then car sales aren't always aimed at the discreet billionaire. This X7 will fly out of the doors in some places (including Cheshire) around the world but the like of us will only ever be reviled. For my part, it looks hideous and probably as far removed from "the ultimate driving machine" as can be imagined.

I don't think BMW are alone - all marques seem to be styling their high end models for those whose only taste is in their mouth.

The 50d now has 4 turbos? I bet the engine bay is like a rat's nest under all that plastic. You'd need to be CORGI registered to sort that plumbing out.

X7 v FFRR rear ends. The vertical lights on the RR make a real difference. The X7 rear end looks like they photocopied a BMW saloon / estate and then just filled in the extra area with badly designed metal.

The Range Rover is so much better looking. It’s a shame because the X7 has a lovely interior and watching the video posted above, it looks more spacious then a RR, so would be great as a big family wagon.

BMW don’t seem to have much of a clue at present. One new suv I do like the look of is the new Q8 so that makes my opinion worthless.

Vile, especially the interior of the one featured. Who thought blue and white leather seats were a good idea? The same twat who came up with that grille, I presume.

Blue and white, same as the badge, innit?
I expect to see these round my manor pretty soon, especially amongst the pikey community and steroid abusers.
