It's still a schoolboy's wet dream of wings and other aero devices and not really my thing - but does anyone else quite like the look of this? I like the more saloon like body shape of the new Civic, especially from the back, and all the noises about the Type R having been part of the design of the whole car this time (not the case last time), and the fact the platform has more complex suspension and drives better in standard form, sounds promising.
I look forward to one being stuffed up my boot soon.

I can't help but feel that successive iterations are perfect examples of more equalling less. A pity, as I generally admire Honda's engineering. And obviously the baseball cap wearer is rather better off than he used to be.

Not for me. Even as a teenager I never got the point of bloody great spoilers on the back of any road car. And that is certainly a bloody great spoiler.

Yet to see the Type R version of the latest Civic, but the boggo versions look terrible to me. Not a fan at all!

Yet to see the Type R version of the latest Civic, but the boggo versions look terrible to me. Not a fan at all! I've seen a few and they really are awful on the eye. The Type R doesn't do much to help it either. I think they just about got the design right with the first of the newer shape Civic's (the first to look like a spaceship). The Type R version managed to add a body kit with just the right amount of hooligan to avoid going completely over the top, but the latest versions have cranked that up to 12. I didn't ever expect the latest one to be as subtle as a Golf R but this one is as subtle as a kick in the nuts!

More ugly than an ugly think dipped in ugly fluid.
I sat in a couple at Geneva and its the poor quality of the fit and finish of the bodykit that surprises nearly as much as the looks

Have there been any magazine tests yet? Seems odd to see a car for sale that hasn't been through Queef's hands first...

It is an absolute mess, as is the normal Civic.

Broke the 'ring record again.

Which means it'll probably be terrible on our roads. But, hey, it's got a dick-swinging Ring record.

I like it, really like it. Full of angles and lines, at least the eyelashes have been bodycolour painted which further helps too. Feel free to pass me my coat and order me a taxi for one to the loony asylum.

I sort of agree a little bit with Nelson (although not to the extent that I feel like I require to be committed).
I wouldn't buy the Type R myself but in a world where the equivalent Golf looks just like a basic Golf that has slightly larger wheels (or an MSport badged 318d looking like an M3) it's refreshing.

Perhaps, although on that front I think the Focus RS does a better job of looking much more than just a warmed up Focus without going quite as OTT as the Civic has.

I wonder how many they sell these days? They used to be everywhere in the days of the EP3 and FN2, but I can only recall seeing two of this one's predecessor on the road.

That's what appeals to me about the fast Golfs, but I prefer the GTI to R aesthetically.

The latest Civic, continues the long struggle for mediocrity. It looks terrible in the outside, the inside is OK in a digestive biscuit type of way.

I still like these, I saw some on the back of a delivery truck the other day (I see a lot of new Hondas and also JLR cars on my regular treks up and down the A34).
The first drives are very positive as well. I can't explain why, but I prefer hot Hondas to the more typical Golf GTi's and so on - probably a mix of my subconscious desire not to do the obvious, and falling in love with the Accord Type R a schoolfriend's dad had....

I saw one yesterday and at first glance thought it was a Subaru. I wouldn't buy one but I can appreciate the engineering that goes in to them.

Wouldn't buy one what - Subaru or CTR? Personally speaking, I wouldn't touch the CTR with a barge pole and the only current Subaru that appeals even slightly is the WRX-STi, and even then only as a courtesy car for a day or three!

I wouldn't buy the CTR. It looked from the side profile very much like the most recent WRX STi which I think is quite an attractive car but the CTR is just a bit too bling for my liking.

I don't the Civic has looked good since the early nineties model with the split tailgate.

Resurrecting this - have suddenly developed an unhealthy fascination with these after rereading the original Evo review.
Has anyone actually driven one?

Nope, but whilst we were right about the aesthetics, the naysayers were clearly wrong about how the car drives!

I didn’t even go and look at one, couldn’t get past the styling or the interior. Familiarity doesn’t help either.
From what I’ve read and a couple of comparison videos I’ve seen, it’s great when you’re out for fun on a good road, but not the best everyday hot hatch.

I've had a good poke around several of them. I love the idea of this Honda, but still cannot get past the looks. I will namedrop Adam Towler again here, who recommended it very highly indeed when we were chatting after an evo trackday at Rockingham last year.
