Mum has decided to stop driving.
It's sad really, she was doing great until she collapsed last December and spent a month in hospital almost dying, leading to a very hectic festive time 2017-2018 for all of us.
However she has made a remarkable recovery, but one lasting issue is that she is frightened of collapsing again so won't go out on her own. She has driven a couple of times in the past few months, but never stopped or got out of the car, just went for short drives, so she proved she was OK at driving but she has lost all confidence of walking anywhere outside her house unaccompanied.
So the V70 is going...... dad's intention was that I had it, plus the non-dating number plate... so the plate is now on retention, a 5-minute (or less) job on line and I'm waiting for mum to receive her new V5 (and retention certificate) and for the new plates to arrive (the new number is allocated to you on line immediately the old plate is taken off the car - it was first registered with the dateless plate so there was no old number to put back on the car).
Elder daughter's Mondeo estate, passed on to her by the other grandparents last year has just failed its MoT (2007 and over 100,000 miles on the clock) to the tune of around £2500 at main dealer prices - quite a bit of work needed to suspension items (apparently) plus the thermostat and thermostat housing (?) need replacing as the heater is not working, so she's going to try to get a local garage to do the essentials on it, and mum is then giving her the V70 (2004 and 25,000 miles) which sailed through its MoT (and servie) a couple of weeks ago.
So it will stay in the family for now and mum will still get to see it occasionally........ It's tempting to buy a cheap "V70" git plate for it ;-)
....... and dad's non-dating plate will, I hope, go onto the Captur in the next few weeks.
Interestingly (?) the V70 does not have rear ISOFIX points for child seats, and daughter has ISOFIX child seats, but a quick "google" shows that Volvo offer kits for left and right rear seats to add ISOFIX fixings, under £30 per side and about 5 minutes to fit, so I've got a couple on order, due for delivery this week.
