Due to the stupid road tax system, I was determined to keep the list price of the Golf under £40k (point of principle more than anything else)
I checked to make sure my calculations were right at both the quote stage and point of placing the order, making sure I got it in writing before paying the deposit as it was really close. However, a little while after the regsitration document came through I had a proper look and the higher rate was listed. Spoke to the lady at the dealership and she said she’d look into it, which she did, although I still don’t know what they did wrong as the list price should have been under. As I understand it they enter the list price on the documentation that gets sent off and for some reason it was put down as £40,006.
Its taken a couple of weeks for her to sort it out, but at no point did she suggest they wouldn’t resolve it for us and yesterday we received a cheque from the dealership for £930 to cover the extra cost for three years. They’ve done that rather than cover five years, which is the total exposure, because the PCP was taken out over that period (although we’ve paid of off now) and we have it in writing that if we keep the car for longer they will cover the extra cost for the final 2 years.
So a bit of a pain, but a satisfactory result overall and happy with the dealers response/resolution.

What a utter farce that £40k figure is and you know it'll not go up to match inflation. It'll be pegged at £40k for years.

Sounds like decent people, some would have made you hang on for ever and done nothing. Good result.

Top result for you but given the margins on new cars someone’s going to be in for a bollocking for costing the dealership the best part of a grand!
And I agree the new tax system is farcical.
