Sounds great. I was thinking about the electric future when I passed a Model X on the M6 this morning. Cheered myself up by going for full sport mode (sports exhaust on) out of the toll booths!

Seriously rose tinted. Today, I drove about 25 miles to see a client and when I got there he had forgotten some of the papers I needed, so I drove him 2 miles to his house, got the papers and drove him back to his office for a meeting. When I left, I took a slightly different route back and called in to see my Mum for 10 minutes. I then drove back to the office. All in that took about 3 hours but I bet with these taxis, I would still be trying to get back home.
These taxis will work well in cities but the minute you throw an urban drive in, forget it.

Yup which is exactly what transport people have forgotten for decades when talking about any form of public transport. Try living in the countryside and it simply gets significantly worse.

Sadly (and grossly stupidly), transport policy has always been set by politians and civil servants who live in London or are totally city-centric in their outlook. So they see public transport as the panacea to all transport ills.
Now, I can see that if you live and work in a city or a purely urban area, this might work, eventually, once they iron out such issues as operating in the rain, snow, ice etc, but as already said in non urban areas this whole idea will never work.
I've also never seen anybody explain how the whole "driverless taxi to solve all transport issues" won't suffer from the same fundamental issue as public transport usage. If you are to satisfy demand at peak times, you will need so many vehicles that they will be unused (and so need to park somewhere!) the rest of the time and so uneconomic.

I'm minded of the quote from the creator of the X Prize, Peter Diamandis: " The day before something is truly a breakthrough, it's a crazy idea".

It's all a bit Demolition Man. I was thinking more Jonny Cabs from Total Recall.

You know how you can get celebrity voices for your Tom Tom? I assume the logical conclusion of all these self-driving electric cabs that will be running round picking us up is that you will be able to get in and choose your celebrity holographic driver from a menu in the back. Imagine being driven home by Ronaldo or Messi with him going "nah mate I don't go south of the river at this time of night"?
