This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I am delighted with it :

Much nicer than the new one. Hopefully you continue to be delighted with it and it’s the most reliable Land Rover on the Forum!
More importantly, do the dogs like it?

The dogs have much more room and seem happy enough. I’m utterly smitten with it.

It isn’t quite the spec I planned for but having compared with a grey one I much prefer black even though I have sworn never to have a black car again after the last two cars I’ve owned. To mitigate for the issues they cause I had it ceramic coated before delivery following a full machine polish and the full on detailing geekiness. They even repainted the wheel hubs and calipers.

Looks good Michael, hope you enjoy it. It was a shame you didn’t gel with the Volvo as you hoped you would but this sounds more like it’s what you want.

Much better than the new one. We have friends who traded their old one (only 2.5 yrs old) for a new Discovery and they say they would have the old one back if they could. Enjoy

Outstanding. I like to think I'm slightly responsible for this, having rocked up at yours in one recently...

Very nice
Did the dealer sub contract the ceramic coating or did you get a detailer of your choice to do it ?

It is black inside, yes. With black wood finishing for the full gangsta' trim. Outstanding. I like to think I'm slightly responsible for this, having rocked up at yours in one recently... Yes it certainly helped steer me in the right direction and sold me on those particular wheels.
What kick-started the search was a mailshot from drive the deal which suggested I could get a new GLE350 for not a lot (I think it was in the order of 30% off) so I found myself in the Mercedes Benz dealership and the only GLE they had was an AMG 43 which is their lesser AMG model. The sticker price was a bit of a surprise in that it was well within my ballpark and for a while I flirted with the idea of one of those but I knew it wasn't quite me and I soon found myself in a Land Rover dealership. I did actually test drive a new Discovery in two and three litre guise and having analysed the trim levels, and gone through the Martin school of essential specifications, I concluded the only version worth bothering about is an HSE Luxury with the TD6 engine. Thing is I just don't have the same affection for them as the '4 and the ten grand saving is coming in useful with the destruction being currently being visited on my house (see background in the first picture). The 5 is a lovely car, and I'll probably have one at some point but I don't feel short changed at the moment as this has all the kit and capability I need. I really enjoy driving it, it's not fast but then I don't drive it like I stole it (unlike the Volvo which I think was on its last legs when I handed it over) if anything though it feels slower than it's going as it's so much quieter than the XC70 was. Fuel economy has been quite surprising as it's better than the Volvo which I hadn't bargained for. It seems to be more economical in town and only loosing out slightly on the highway.
I just need our light-fingered number in JLR employ to procure me a few bits from the accessories catalogue...

Very nice. Not my thing but the interiors of these things are superb.
Do the dogs need some kind of mobility-style lift to get in and out?
And is that your gaff covered in scaffold?

The dogs can get in and out fine if I lower it to access height. I ease them down when they get out just to protect their joints. Yes that’s my house, we’re having solid wall insulation put on which is possibly the most disruptive thing you can do to a house you live in.

Nice that. After living a few years in Berks/Surrey, in the last month or so I've been able to readjust to life without being surrounded by bloody Land Rovers. Having said that our ex child minder had something similar - all black, including the alloys and Discovery lettering, but thankfully not blacked out windows. It actually looked quite tasteful and understated. With a private plate I presumed it was say 10 years old with moon and back mileage but was surprised to find it was well under 3 years with an eye watering price tag new. She's had a few of the latest offerings on test drive and wouldn't change.
What happened to the Volvo?

It got traded in and is currently for sale in Carlisle. I seriously wouldn’t touch it as that car has had the hardest of lives and used oil at an alarming rate. In addition to the smashed grill which was held together with Pritt Stick (I’m not joking) and the roof liner which probably needs replacing having got marked with tar from the shed roofing I’d transported a few weeks earlier, it stank of wet dogs. That generation of Volvo are utterly shite and I’m glad to be shot of it. I’m very much enjoy my git-plated, tinted windowed, bling wheeled shiny black urban tractor. I’m aware some aren’t fans but I simply don’t give a shit. I love it.
