Now? I thought that it had been degraded into a shit-hole many years ago.
There was a saying I recall from my younger days: "Happiness is Slough in my rear-view mirror"

My mum grew up in Slough and, until very recently, my aunt and uncle still lived there. I remember we used to drive past the Mars factory on our way to see them and I remember once we passed the factory just after they’d had a sugar delivery, only the tanker driver had missed the chute and there was a giant pile of sugar on the pavement with two blokes shovelling it into the hopper!

Sup up your beer and collect your fags There’s a row going on down near Slough .....
I’ve been through Slough about 6 times in my life: not nice but a necessary town surrounded by some very costly villages.

The one reason that there used to be to go to Slough was that it was a very early venue for McDonalds (when they were cool places to go for a take away - this is 1978 we're talking about). No parking restrictions on the high street, go in, collect take away (with no VAT on those days), drive away, jobs a good-un.

I'm glad to say that I have never been. I don't plan to any time soon, either.

Only ever been through - it pretty much had the same reputation 40 years ago - we used to call it 'Sluff'There used to be a nightclub called Sluffs which was in the Windsor / Slough area. I worked there for a few weeks (early 1980s) and was informed by the visiting maintenance engineer that the condom machine in the ladies disco-area toilets was the highest grossing machine in Berkshire.
