This was recently in for its test. It passed after four new drive tyres. 😩
It also needed an oil temperature sender as this was throwing an engine fault. This is accessed by removing the belt, which had a seized tensioner. The tensioner was £200 and the belt £50. For a belt!!!
I’ve decided that it’s days are numbered and am going to put it up for sale. It got used a grand total of three times last year and twice this year. Fuck that. Lindsey is now sulking but a £1500 bill means it can’t justify its existence.
I’m not a fan of horse trailers, but that is what it’s replacment will be.
I went to move it last night and the engine turned over once and then there was a bang and everything was dead. I’ve checked all the fuses and replaced some blown ECU fuses but is suspect the main battery cable has blown off the starter solenoid or the main earth has perished. To say I’m a little annoyed with it would be an understatement. It is parked up against a wall so I can’t tilt the cab and there is no air in the brakes so I can’t pull it out of the way. Grrrr!😡

Sorry to hear your financial pain. Luckily I hate horses. They seem an expense nearly on par with motorsport. If the boy shows any interest in Horses I think I'll buy him a dog as a poor substitute.

Get a big dog and he won't notice the difference for a few years!
That is not a good situation with the lorry - is it suffering from a lack of use? Do they ever do timeshare with lorries so they get more use/share the costs rather than a trailer?

You seem to have been hit hard this year, financially speaking, hope this improves soon.

Someone I know said Katy Price (our local celeb) is looking to offload her Barbie Pink horsebox if you’re after a replacement!
It does sound like lack of use isn’t do it any good and a horsebox trailer sounds a more sensible idea given that you’ve a car more than suited to towing it.

All fixed. The starter solenoid earth needed cleaning. I managed to tilt the cab enough to get to it.
Yes, lack of use, as with any vehicle, isn’t doing it any good at all.
I am not aware of any sharing schemes available.

That’s something. Sounds like a trailer is the right solution, less to wrong as well.

Yes, brakes and lights and floor are pretty much it for trailer maintenance.

😂
Handily, most modern trailers are galvanised these days. It would be an IWT 511 that I would go for.

I think the only hobby more expensive than horses must be running old Land Rovers. I don't think you can strip a pony down and rebuild it from parts acquired on EBay though. Unless that's how camels came about..

If the boy shows any interest in Horses I think I'll buy him a dog as a poor substitute. No, you should encourage it. Because the teenage boy to teenage girl ratio in horse riding must be about 1:20+ at least. He'll be beating them off with a stick. And choose your riding environment carefully and a lot of girls that ride have rich fathers. Even better. I didn't learnt to ride till I was 30 and my regret was that I never started 20 years earlier......

I got into horses at about 16 . Never once got ID’d in William hill . When I go in now to put my football bets on , I always have a quick bet on the gee gee’s . Great fun
